Overview

Another wonderful poetry anthology from Garrison Keillor-rooted in the American landscape.

Greatness comes in many forms, and as Garrison Keillor demonstrates daily on The Writer's Almanac, the most affecting poems in the canon are in plain English. Third in Keillor's series of anthologies, Good Poems, American Places brings together poems that celebrate the geography and culture that bind us together as a nation. Think of these poems as postcards from the road, by poets who've gotten carried away by a particular place-a town in Kansas, a kitchen window in Nantucket, a Manhattan street, a farm in western Minnesota. Featuring famous poets and brash unknowns alike, the verses in this exhilarating collection prove that the heart can be exalted anywhere in America.

Editorial Reviews

Poems breathe place. Whether that locale is Gary Snyder's wilderness west or William Carlos Williams' urban New Jersey outpost, American poetry is suffused with the atmosphere of its settings. Garrison Keillor's anthology Good Poems, American Places recognizes that focus with a free-ranging selection of our cities, towns, rural communities, and rustic hideaways. Poet contributors include Billy Collins, Mary Oliver, Nikki Giovanni, and Naomi Shibab Nye.

I debated whether to buy the book or the ebook, as I needed this for a college class. Today the teacher read a poem out of it that is NOT in my ebook edition. If the Nook format is not the same as the physical book this should be stated up front. My money was wasted. I bought an ebook that is useless to me and now have to shell out more money to purchase the book! Not right!!!!
