Overview

Goodnight, Campsite by Loretta Sponsler, Olga Shevchenko

"Goodnight, Campsite" is an award-winning children's book on camping, featuring more than tents. Our book highlights RVs - Travel Trailers, Fifth-Wheels, Pop-Ups, Class A, Class C, and other camper options.

The perfect gift for RVers, especially those looking for kids camping books or camping books for toddlers.

"Goodnight, Campsite" is set in a beautiful nature park, and the story follow visitors as they explore the park during the day (hiking, biking, fishing, etc.), and then returns with them to their campsite at night. There is an emphasis on RVs, which sets this title apart from other camping books on the market, which only feature tents.

Preschool-aged children will love the beautiful and colorful pictures - and searching for the squirrel hiding in the pictures. Rhyming text will keep children engaged, as they build sound associations and phonemic skills.

Also included in the book is a Campsite Bingo game! Visit www.goodnightcampsite.com for more information and free printable camping activities.

We know there are lots of children's books about camping out there, and we are honored that you are considering "Goodnight, Campsite."

About the Author

"Goodnight, Campsite" was born of a love of camping and books, and it filled a rather large void, children's books about recreational vehicles (RVs). Author Loretta Sponsler had looked high and low for camping books to take along on her family's RV adventures. While general, tent camping books abounded, specific books featuring RVs were nowhere to be found. Well, she thought, "I'll write one - one my boys will love!"

Loretta was born and raised in New Mexico, currently lives in California, and travels all over the country, although the West holds a particular spot in her heart. She has a degree in journalism and worked most of her career as a technical writer and editor with the U.S. Government. Now Loretta is a full-time mom, part-time writer.

Loretta and her family, complete with three young boys, have traveled all over the United States, pulling a travel trailer and camping along the way. See you on the trails!

Loretta Sponsler has her own unique voice and writing style that makes this book feel fresh and exciting, and not like something my kids (and I) have read a million times before. I definitely enjoyed the strong world-building, descriptions, and creativity here in “Goodnight, Campsite”. We actually feel like we are there in the parks camping and participating in all the outdoors activities and seeing the various sights. The story flows from scene to scene effortlessly, and the author shows exceptional ability when it comes to storytelling. Ms. Sponsler has the ability to entice even reluctant readers into this adventurous and intriguing world with such fun characters to go through these adventures with, and we hope to read more soon!

I am not ashamed to admit it, I'm 41 years old and I thought this book was totally adorable. I was caught up in the entertaining storyline and thought the writing was great – very clear and easy to follow and good pacing. Very descriptive and with great energy and spunk. I can't say enough good things about this book, do yourself a favor buy it! You'll smile and laugh and love it each time you read it, and your children will love it! And you’ll wish you could be biking or camping or fishing or hiking too!

This was a very cute book and easy to read. Great text/picture ratio and the writing had great descriptions and rhythm. Easy to understand concepts and words, and even a few that will have to be explained to the younger ones (this is a good thing). Liked the idea of the story being about the activities one has while camping and travelling in an RV, and the text and pictures match the active and lively tone of the book and is full of adventures. Feel like it opened our eyes to some of the perks of camping and I think we just added it to our summer plans! A great book for children, and I’m sure older readers will enjoy it as well.(

4.5 stars my 8-year-old daughter loves all that is ‘outdoors’ these days, so needless to say this book was a huge hit. The way the author brings not only the various activities, but the other elements of camping and the characters to life, it is so genuine and real, and the story had much more substance than I was expecting, which was a good thing. It felt very well-rounded and was time well spent reading it. A terrific addition to our book collection and we are eager to read more from Loretta Sponsler! Recommend for ages 3-10

first off, I have to say how happy I am that this is a great book that my children enjoyed that had a useful and informative storyline! We all enjoyed the adorable pictures and action-packed storyline and enjoyed the flow and lively rhyming rhythm of the narrative. The fast pace and bright drawings helped to keep them interested, and they certainly loved the overall storyline. While this is a sweet and fun book, I wish there could have been more of a lesson or moral involved to help teach children a particular message… But overall a fun, enlightening, and adventuresome type of book that children and adults will enjoy.

"Goodnight, Campsite” by Loretta Sponsler is such a cute story! And the illustrations really help the book to come alive—They really are terrific (liked how they were done in a few different styles, too). This book is probably suited more for the 5 and up crowd, but the text is simple and clear enough (and matches the pictures so well) that the youngers will have no trouble following along. But they will enjoy having the story read to them, and the pictures are really charming, and it’s great for them to learn about the joys of camping and some things it has to offer! Don't miss this gem! It is a sure winner with the kiddos… a fun, adventuresome tale that gets them excited about camping and nature activities!

a well-written, fun and entertaining tale, “Goodnight, Campsite” is definitely one of those books that is as fun to read for the adults as it is for the children. The illustrations add a great accent and life to the story, but while some children’s books absolutely must rely on the pictures to keep the child’s attention, this book definitely does not… It has some interesting information about the outdoors and the wildlife/natural elements of camp life and RV parks, and while we are leaning things, it doesn’t feel “teachy” (which can turn children off). The story is captivating and heart-warming and with great pacing. Highly recommended for nature lovers of all ages.

I gave this book a well-deserved 5 stars! I appreciate the author's unique take on making this one more special, and not just being ‘about’ camping but actually making the readers part of the experience and including the use of the RV’s in the storyline on camping. This is the first I’ve read that is done this way and it works well – very organic feel! And then tying a plot neatly around it so that it makes sense and is actually interesting. Small children will like it because they enjoy animal stories and outdoor/nature stories. Many younger children have never been camping at all and this is a wonderful way to let them know about it Appreciated the sense of outdoorsmanship, and every child should have this book, and older readers will enjoy it too.

I read this book with my kids to see what they would think of it, and I received very good feedback. They loved the story and the illustrations, but especially loved how they are able to feel like they are participating in the camping experience, especially with the interactive games at the end. This book was short enough to hold their attention, but long enough for it to be a decent bed time story. They loved the rhyming text that described the fun outdoor adventures, and the illustrations were excellent! They definitely got excited over the RV’s (and yes, now they want to go too!). Would like to see more adventures like these! Great for ages 3 and up.

"Goodnight, Campsite” by Loretta Sponsler is a fun, fast read that is sure to delight! Really interesting, and draws you in right away. I love the idea of a riding along in an RV’s and experiencing the campsites that way, and all the fun adventures to be had, from biking, fishing, cooking, etc… and the animals and other characters they meet are so fun too! We enjoyed the drawings and illustrations and it’s excellently edited with perfect pacing and text-to-picture ratio, especially for younger readers! I think the author is onto something special here and it would be fun to read more in this niche– the possibilities seem endless! An entertaining and informative picture book that we’ll be sure to read again and again.

4.5 stars For young reader and picture books, author voice is almost everything, and it will make or break a child’s enjoyment of it. They need to hear originality and know that the author is not trying to sound or write like someone else, but is telling the story in a whole new way, whatever that story may be in an engaging, authentic manner. Kids can smell a fake a mile away, and believe me I’ve read my fair share of books from authors who “try” to have the voice and personality suitable for younger readers, but fail. “Goodnight, Campsite” by Loretta Sponsler delivers on all accounts in an impressive way. Very creative, charming, and great voice and narrative flow. The storylines were simple and informative and matched the pictures. (Which are absolutely wonderful by the way!)Has a nice hook and we feel like we actually learned something as well! Like the author herself says, there are plenty of picture books on camping, but few that feature RV’s and motorhomes… A great read, and will be looking for the next one from Ms. Sponsler. Recommend for ages 3 and up through adults (hey, I liked it too!).

this was the first book I’ve read from Loretta Sponsler, but I hope it won’t be the last— We loved it! My children and I really enjoyed Ms. Sponsler’s storytelling abilities and the style of writing she uses—the fun and distinctive ‘voice’ that is so lively and children can easily relate to and makes reading about various adventures while camping so exciting and what makes RV’s so fun and special. It is so clear and easy to read, but each sentence and page packs so much energy and imagery that you really get a bang for your buck. Wonderful drawings and a positive message of outdoors and nature. Recommend for ages 3-8. I hope there will be more soon!
