For we walk by faith, not by sight.
(2 Corinthians 5:7)
Another year and more secrets at Saint Raphael's. Many island families adopted other-world children found thru the H.A.L.O.S. (Help All Lost Orphan Souls) network. The MacCleary clan have adopted the twins, David and Moira, into their family.
After successfully completing their first year, Mem's former teammates, David, Moira, Jamie, and islander Darius, are now in Gopher House, or second year. Darius and David are starting to understand one another.
One boy failed after his poor choices, and his defiance ultimately had him removed from Saint Raphael's. Mem and her teammates were not at all sorry to see the boy go. They were surprised to learn of his replacement, a boy with down syndrome, Artis T Bass.
Non-traditional classes continue in Gopher House with service training and new rules for their new lives. Their other class, NVD, or Non-Violent Defense course was evolving and challenging. Not everyone accepted Saint Raphael's rules. The school bully, Lettie Jones, continually annoys and berates Mem and her teammates. One strange quirky outburst in the kitchens had Mem and some of her schoolmates sucked into the rainbow forbidden door and cast into the other-world of lies, poverty, and corruption.
Lettie and Artis T are saved by another-world gang called Harpies. Mem, David, and Moira are thrown into another section of the other-world and forced not only to find their classmates, but also deal with brutal violence and slums along the river.
Can Mem, David, and Moira find Lettie and Artis T before it's too late? Will they be able to return to Saint Raphael's? What secrets will be revealed?
