About the Author

David W. Bebbington is senior lecturer in history at the University of Stirling, Scotland. He earned his Ph.D. from Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge. He is the author or editor of numerous books, including "Evangelicalism in Modern Britain", "Patterns in History", "Holiness in Nineteenth-Century England" and "The Mind of Gladstone".
