The Barlows move to the quiet New England seaside town of Grace Point to escape the emotional scars of husband Jake's escapade with a teenager in New Haven, but their newly calm life is disrupted when Zoe and daughter Emily discover four infant skeletons neatly wrapped in hat boxes and stored in their attic. Then the Barlows' infant son Adam is kidnapped. Is there a connection? What happened 50 years ago, when Rosalie Santos's father lived in their house? As the murder/kidnap investigation intensifies, suspicions focus on the Grace Point Portuguese fishing community of 1940. Although LeClaire ( Every Mother's Son , Bantam, 1985) poses some easily answered questions, she also tells a good story, and a passionate romance between two characters generates enough interest to keep readers hooked until the final twists. An entertaining romantic suspense novel, recommended for summer reading.-- Heather Blenkinsopp, Mercy Coll. Lib., Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
