Granny Dan made me realize that sometimes granparents are not just grandparents, things happened in their life and they just wait somebdy to just ask them but when we don't they just keep quite and take it to their grave. I think i learned a great more about my grandparents ever since i read this book, coz i asked them and they were delighted to tell me. I think everybody will love this book, and it doesn't matter the age differences between the character's coz even now some people like to go out with people 10-20 years yonger then them so it's not that bad or disgusting, i really loved this book.

Quick read. Love a little history in novels. Wish I had thought to talk to my Grandmother about her youth. She saw everythimg from horse and buggy to first autos to space travel. Like 'Granny Dan' she was much younger than my Grandfather. Though she didn't roller skate, she was really cool! I'm sure she'd have had a lot to say. I'm sorry that I'll never know. Better talk to Mom (she 88), bet she could tell me a fee things!

Danielle Steel's Granny Dan is about love so intense it survives death. The woman a promising ballet dancer, the man a doctor to the ruling class, come together after she's lost her entire family to war. Their love is kept secret because he's married with a son. The war worsens and he gets his family out but he remains to serve. When he sees that the war is going to be lost to those he serve he gets Danina, Granny Dan out sending her to America to live with his uncle telling her he'll join her soon but that doesn't happen. She marries the uncle and makes a life without the man she'll always love.

This was my the first Danielle Steel book. I had a ballerina friend reading this book, and as a ballet wannabe as a kid this book-especially it's cover- drawn me to itself. I was thirteen at that time. I read the story in shock, because it was describing a different time, and because of the things the main character went through. I had hard time imagining the young ballerina as a granny, but it made me realize that grannies loved and were loved once. They didn't born as our grannies. They had their own life, and adventures before becoming our grannies.

I am a dancer and I also love to read stories that take place in the early 1900's, so I had to read this book. I have to say that I was brought to tears by this tragic story. The only thing I didn't like was, well I kind of found the affair between the two main characters kind of creepy. She was discribed as looking so young that I found it creepy that a man twice her age would be attracted to her. I have nothing against older men with younger women, but I think that she shouldn't have discribed her as looking almost like a child. Aside from that I loved the romance and tragidy that the two faced in the book. Being a dancer and part russian myself, I have no choice but to like this book. A very good and sad read. Be ready to cry, but it will be well worth it.

I was very torn with this book. I liked it overall. I loved how it makes you think about the various lives we live throughout our life and how someone who only knows you in your elder years, has no idea who you were when younger. It really makes you want to ask questions of parents and grandparents. There were some disturbing attributes of it, mainly for me that you are led to desired a broken marriage to be abandoned in favor of a young love. It has more of a tragic ending.
