About the Author

Hattie King was born in the summer of 1978 and from an early age took an interest in storytelling and drawing, but after debuting on stage at the young age of six as Gretel in her church's production of Sound of Music, she fell in love with the stage. This love for theater lead King to participate in dance choirs, acting, costume design, light design, makeup, stagecraft, painting, and eventually management. She was named Theater Student of the year at the Terry M. Fischer Theater in 2003 and earned her associates in Theater amidst raising a family.

After earning her two-year degree, King enrolled in a four year university and quickly became enamored with literature. It was here that she really began to bloom as a writer. Having daily conversations with professors, resident poets and fiction writers alike, King began and resided over the local chapter of an English Honor Society, hosting monthly speaker events for faculty and staff and their published works. She graduated magna cum laude in 2011 with a degree in English Literature and began working on her Master's degree.

In 2013, however, before finishing her graduate degree, Hattie's family life took her away from academia and out of the lime light to a secluded six acres in rural Missouri where her creativity seemed to incubate among the wildlife.
King began homeschooling her children and took a break from writing (excepting her blog which never really took off), until she was working retail at a department store in the evenings and began writing jingles that she would sing/announce over the speaker throughout the store. It was during one of these shifts that an enthusiastic co-worker became adamant that King look into writing children's books. Having had an idea for That Tat and Doge for years, King began writing verses on receipt paper during her shifts. She also began writing her daily "warm-ups," started focusing on her editing and founded a writing workshop at the library in town.

This is Hattie King's first published work with her second book Pebbles due for release in 2021. She currently and happily resides in Bellingham, Washington with her husband of 21 years and their two teenagers.
