Great British Cooking: A Wellkept Secret by Jane Garmey

This book is a revelation to Americans who have never tasted real Cornish Pasties, Scotch Woodcock (a splendid version of scrambled eggs) or Brown Bread Ice Cream. From the sumptuous breakfasts that made England famous to the steamed puddings, trifles, meringues and syllabubs that are still renowned, no aspect of British cooking is overlooked. Soups, fish, meat and game, vegetables, sauces, high teas, scones, crumpets, hot cross buns, savories, preserves and sweets of all kinds are here in clear, precise recipes with ingredients and utensils translated into American terms.

Finally I have found someone who knows the proper way to make yorkshire pudding (pouring the batter into the roasting pan). Also check out the recipes for Toad-in-the Hole, Pork Pie and Crumpets! The best and only British cookbook I will ever need!

My husband and work building manager (both expats) give this book two thumbs up! Not only for the Classic dishes included but for the lack of 'translation' needed in cooking them here.

This book has the best recipes around for British cooking. They are easy to follow and quite yummy. Try the Guiness Beef Stew with some mashed potatoes and you'll be in Heaven.
