Out of the ashes of a group called Trip Shakespeare comes Semisonic, three guys who share a heavy melodic sense. Combining traditional rock instruments with ambient noise and electronic wizardry, they concoct an appealing sound anchored deep in rock and roll. "If I Run" is a gorgeous tune while "FNT" (which stands for "Fascinating New Thing") has hooks galore. A must for any serious fan of rock & roll with a twist.

Everyone knows Closing Time but Semisonic is no one-song wonder. This album is every bit as good as Feeling Strangely Fine (which has many great songs besides Closing Time). Fascinating New Thing (F.N.T.) is a great rock song with a driving beat and cool riff. If I Run is a great driving song about getting away by jumping in your car. I could go on and on because The Great Divide is solid all the way through. Anyone can find a reason to love this band, whether it's the well-written songs, the fine instrument play, Dan's voice or all of the above. All of these things are here on The Great Divide if you like great rock with a little electronics and a dash of pop, get the album!
