This second book in the Underland Chronicles is a masterpiece- just like the rest of its series! The first book have you hooked on the first page, until the end- even the end of the whole series, and number two is no different. Very action-packed, exciting, and unexpected (I don't think many people can fully well expect giant roaches, rats and humans living under the earth in a story! The author has created a unique, vivid world that will enthrall all readers; Someone should REALLY sign the series up as a movie contract!)- all you could ask for in a book! You'll laugh at the main character, Gregor's silly situations, cry (or almost!) when you read of the tragedies and predicaments, adore its lovely characters, may they be good or bad...the Underland Chronicles = AWESOME! I recommend you TOTALLY read it! You'll be hooked!

The follow-up to the outstanding "Gregor the Overlander" is less enthralling than its predecessor, but is still full of excitement and a showdown that goes totally unexpected. Suzanne Collins continues to deliver the goods as the characters of the Underland continue to fill our imagination. We also get to meet some new interesting characters, although it would be helpful if there names were not so similar (Solovet and Stellovet) so I didn't have to turn back in the book to make sure I knew which character is which.

The Underland Chronicles is a gripping and fascinating series - but isn't it weird that Gregor happens to be a Rager, when in the first book it doesn't say anything about him having incredible fighting skills? Still, I have to rate this 5 stars - more if I could!

Collins is one of the most subtile, yet persuasive anti-war propagandists I have ever read.

A well developed plot, great action and believable dialogue. This book has everything that I have come to expect from this author. Gregor has been tricked into rescuing his sister Boots. He is lured back to the Underland and is told he is to fulfill another prophecy. This time they want him to be a killer and kill the "Bane" before it can destroy the Underland. He is again aided by his friends and led by his instincts and sometimes misleading advice of his companions. Gregor makes a really tough decision in his installment of his adventures and his decision is put to the test. This is a great book that won't disappoint.

I thought this book was really great. But I don't recomend it if you don't like action or fantacy. But over all I give it 10,000,000 out of ten.

Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane was an engaging read and served more as a gradual process of revelations to pave the way for the following three books in the series. It was long enough to adequately flesh out its characters and the atmosphere in the Underland – this along with the emphasized significance of the plot consistently impressed me – I liked it! ___________________________________ WHAT I LIKED + All of the familiar tropes from the middle-grade/fantasy genres are piled up in this book, but are either altered or provided with emphasized significance, and (as with all Suzanne Collins books) offer a heavy dose of lessons on morality. That’s what I enjoy about Collins’ books, though ― how they naturally manage to tug at the strings of my heart and expose increasingly dark truths about my given nature. The plot ultimately turned out to be a refreshing lineup of familiar tropes and relatively fresh material. + The characters are rather common archetypes; however, I admired how their one-dimensional personalities flourished even more in this plot line than in book one. Too, I really enjoyed how their quest served as a testing of fire and how the circumstances leading up to the conclusion made them susceptible to their flaws and weaknesses – they faced tough decisions, they encountered even more powerful foes, they were forced to lay their differences aside and trust one another, they grew in friendship, and even laid down their lives! It goes without saying that the majority of character development takes place during the battles themselves; especially the ones that were life-threatening. It was all so tragically beautiful and impressive. + At the center of all the commotion in Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane, one character, in particular, stole my heart, and that is Twitchtip. Oh, how I loved this precious rat; I loved her snippy personality, her snide remarks and just the tragedy surrounding her back story – she was born with an invaluable gift and because of this, her very own kin cast her aside! All those years of living alone in the Dead Land had left her desperate to touch any warm being. Even him. + The world and atmosphere in the Underland is both majestic and awesome-ly creepy. There are stunning nightmarish labyrinths and oceans that teem with twisted imagery, and legendary creatures. I also enjoyed how in the midst of all this sodden chaos, Suzanne Collins began to unveil the dark, oppressive and painful reality of the Underland world ― which in the end, in light of its clever cliffhanger, leaves you begging for more. THINGS THAT MADE GO HMMM. . . - I have to admit, I wasn’t fully immersed in the story at first. I suspect it’s mainly because I read a lot from the YA and Adult Fiction genres; thus, I had to force myself to push through the chapters whilst, of course, bearing in mind that these books are geared towards a younger audience. I should mention that the story begins to pick up a quarter into the book! - The Underland Chronicles has a huge array of characters – witty animal protagonists (rats, cockroaches, moths, fireflies, spiders, bats, you name it!), mythical creatures and beings, even an adorable two-year-old toddler who plays a somewhat pivotal role. I admit this large casts overwhelms at times and I sense I am not truly appreciating them all.
