This is a simple history of our understanding of inheritance and genes, starting with Gregor Mendel and coming up chronologicaly to the present. The first half deals primarily with Mendel and his life. This is followed by the history of chromosomes, genes, DNA, sequencing, and genetic engineering. This book is well written in (primarily) general and easy to understand terms. There are many illustrations, many historical or explanatory. It is half biography and half a historical overview of the science and technology. I would recommend this to anyone curious about the subject.
