Overview

Miracles happen, not in opposition to Nature, but in opposition to what we know of Nature. St. Augustine.
United States Coast Guard officer, Ian Loudoun ,heartily agreed with St. Augustine, for like the saint, he was no stranger to the unexplainable. He was surrounded by the unexplainable: his Scottish grandmother who taught him that life descends from spirit not up from matter, and a Spanish uncle named Draco who is living proof of her teaching. So when Ian’s attention is caught by a cloud of golden mist in the middle of the Olympic National Forest, he is not too surprised. But when he stumbles upon a woman who announces calmly ‘you came back to me’, his interest zooms right past attraction to acute fascination.
Someone is looking for Gwendolyn Carlisle Niall. That somemone believes the young woman Gwen Burrie is that person. Strange phone calls, letters in the mail, and now an attack in the forest, and she has no idea why. Worse, she doesn’t want to know. But when her mother is shot dead, and Ian starts pressing her for answers, the walls she had carefully built around her heart begin to crack; and when a letter reveals that she is that woman named Gwendolyn, the walls of her mind shatter, exposing her to a nightmarish memory of her father’s murder.
When Ian’s uncle Draco learns of Gwen’s significance to an ongoing international investigation, he insists on bringing her in to protect her, even offering Ian a job. Ian refuses the offer, unwittingly putting Gwen in the way of the world’s top suspect in the investigation. So he offers the gods a deal— his life for hers.

About the Author

Cara Lyle began life in the Pacific NW where a branch of her Virginia based family settled in the 1870s. She attended school in Switzerland, Ireland and Hawaii. She has traveled extensively in Europe , Asia Minor, and the Caribbean.
For fun she crewed on sailing vessels around the British Isles, the Atlantic and the Caribbean (where gales and broken equipment ruined more than one perfectly good cruise). Apart from little hiccups like a hurricane off the Virgin Island of Tortola, and the occasional engine fire, Cara believed she had it all…until the day she ran into a man on an Idaho ski slope. Literally ran into him. One broken leg later, she married that skier.
Now back in the NW, she hopes to entertain her audience with vignettes as well as full blown descriptions of the places she worked and played.
