Grunts is a three book series by Mary Gentle. In the first book, Brothers In Arms, the dark forces and the light forces are preparing for "The Final Battle". The orcs are with the dark forces and have been advancing toward the battle grounds. The battalion the book is following is The Fighting Agaku with Ashnak in command. On the light side two brothers who have mad a living as thieves are main characters. Another aspect is that the Nameless and the Named are twins who have joined separate forces. Brothers In Arms is a very exciting series. A major setback of the book is it gets confusing once in awhile. The author does a good job switching character viewpoints back and forth which gives different opinions to what is happening in the book. Overall, Grunts by Mary Gentle is an exciting and well thought out series. Reviewed by: Izzy Sincerely

I've been in a bit of a reading slump lately and was told to give Grunts a try. At first I wasn't too sure about it, but it quickly drew me in. I enjoyed every moment of this read, and won't be surprised if I give it a second or third go without getting tired of it. I do wish that Mary Gentle put out more books of this nature.

So, you get orcs, and you get guns, and you get the expected send-ups of various fantasy tropes, and it's all fun... but the author doesn't quite manage to put an ending on the book. Reminds me of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail. "

I've read this book 4 times and have give to my friend to read, this mixes fantasy, comedy and military prospects in an hilarious blend!

Grunts has a full flavor of offbeat and sometimes dark humor, a very good read.

I have a hard time finding myself willing to pick up a book where the description is misspelled.
