Overview

Guest Pass gives you a back-stage entry to "tour" your teen's world. It is co-written by a mother/psychologist and daughter/high school junior who discuss topics relevant to today's teenage culture from multiple perspectives. This book explores parent-teen issues related to the use of social network media, body art, emotional distress, substance use, and more.

Although the specifics of parents, adolescents, and their relationships are unique, there are common challenges that arise during this developmental stage. Guest pass provides theoretical analysis and clinical research to facilitate your understanding of your teenagers. Each chapter also includes exercises for self-assessment, questions to share with your adolescents, and practical suggestions on how to apply what you have learned. By increasing your knowledge, you will be better equipped to build healthier relationships with your teens.

About the Author

Susan Oh Cha, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist. She has worked in various treatment settings: university counseling centers, hospitals, community mental health agencies, and private practice. She is committed to facilitating healing and wholeness in individuals, couples, and families. She has given numerous lectures and workshops on parenting and developmental issues. She also consults with organizations and engages in community outreach. Dr. Cha is currently in private practice with a group of multi-disciplinary mental health practitioners. Her clinical work consists of helping individuals, couples, and families struggling with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, family discord, cross-cultural issues, and spiritual concerns.

Yumi Bryana Cha is a junior in high school. She is interested in studying psychology. This is due in part to her natural role in her friendships: Many peers have approached her with their problems, and Yumi finds it rewarding to encourage her friends as they work through their struggles, especially with their parents. She has been a part of various organizations, such as People to People Student Ambassador Program, California Youth Symphony, Girl Scouts, JRP Acting and
Modeling School, and Key Club. Yumi also has a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, sings in her school’s chamber choir and in her church’s praise team, and plays multiple musical instruments. The best part about all these life experiences, in her opinion, is meeting people who then become wonderful friends.
