The book the Puppy Place: Gus is a creative story carrying a message to foster and adopt dogs. The story line is heated nicely by human feelings of jealousy, kindness, and determination. It also shows that emotions should never get in the way of good judgement. The main character Lizzie is from a dog loving family. They adopt and foster dogs, which basically means keeping them as their own until they can find, in Lizzie’s words, a” forever family”. But the latest arrival is special. His name is Gus, and everyone in the family adores him even more than they do with usual foster puppies. This is especially true for Lizzie’s mom, whose usually sound judgement is clouded at the sight of cute little Gus. And when a news article about Gus and his previous owners resurfaces, the public starts to want him too. Soon, a contest is put into place to determine who gets the irresistible puppy, and Lizzie’s mother illegally enters. Who will win the prized pooch? Read the book to find out! I think this book is geared towards younger kids, around the 7-8 age range, especially girls. But in general, any dog lover would enjoy this book, which includes a cute front cover picture of Gus. There is also a lot of other books in the Puppy Place series, so if you like one, you’ll like them all! I gave this book four stars because it was a nicely put together story that I instantly took a liking to due to my love of dogs. It was a good read and I enjoyed it.
