278 pages. I like this author and was suprised this book was free. However, I found the book.to be disappointing. I quickly guessed who the villan was and the romance between the hero and heroine moved slowly. I would buy another book by this author but that would be based on her body of work, not this book. It is part of a series but stands alone.

This needs a good editor. I. Have read many of her books and enjoyed them, but this one had a weak story and tiresome characters. It needed a much more honest edit or it needed to be left in a drawer.

Thoroughly enjoyed the little mystery. Hay and Avie are a hit!

This was an OK book to read. Needs some editing and possibly some surprises.

A 2-1/2 star rating would have been my preference but I can not indicate this book as worthy of a 3-star rating. I skipped so many pages and chapters because as another reviewer wrote it was redundant. I don't want or need a book which dedicates itself to numerous pages in almost every chapter detailing explicit sex scenes. Actually, if written better, the story's subject line - rape and living with its consequences; a gentleman who wants his freedom to travel and live his life as he chooses requesting his brother to leave the church and take over the family duties could have made it a great read. I realize the author wanted to get the message across that there can be love and sex even after a violent rape; but for me, the author was too fixated on writing explicit sexual scenes and missed writing what could have been a great story by miles.

I have enjoyed a few of her other books, but this one is so tedious! I have been skipping pages, forcing myself to read, and I am only about half way thru.

I have enjoyed the Lonely Lord series.  Hadrian was familiar from Devlin's story.  The characters in this story are not as engaging as some of her other books.  Still not a bad read, just not special.

I'm a fan of Grace Burrowes 'The Heir' series. Loved almost all of them. I loved most of her Highland series as well. However, The Lonely Lord series is a hit and miss with me. Some I love, some I tolerate, and some I can't finish. This one I enjoyed more than some and it could be because the characters is Hadrian are familiar to us. Benjamin Hazlit's sister and the vicar from Devlin and Emmy's story. Still, she has a habit of writing almost all her male characters the same (almost giving them the same 'voice' and emotions)and all the female characters are emotionally stunted, injured or abused. I would love to see stronger female characters from her and a male who doesn't bring up 'menses' etc. Still, as mentioned, this was better than some.

Thought "Lost Lords" series was done. My bad. Grace Burrowes is one of the best historical novelists currently writing. Was a bit distracted with the typos in this book. Could have benefitted from careful editing.

I do understand why immature people bave to ruin a customer review blog with filth--apologies for commenting about the review before mine, i will call Barnes & Noble to have them delete the 14 year old girl's posting! BTW the book is excellent just like all her books, I am making my way through all of them LOL
