This is a great book which fiction-izes the story of Sarai and Abram in the bible. God (Yahweh) promises Sarai a child of Abram's but she is so old she laughs when she hears this. She plans that she can have Abram's child by causing her slave, Hagar, to conceive a child with Abram and turn the child over to her. Her plan is thwarted when Sarai herself becomes pregnant and jealousy slips in. This is a great story told from Hagar's point of view, how she would do anything for her Master and in doing so she left her idols behind and became a believer in God.
