Overview

Ronna Mae Morgan, granddaughter of sharecroppers, has plunged into the world where her mother grew up in rural North Carolina. As the unexpected owner of Pettigrew Farm, where five generations of ancestors are buried in the side yard, Ronna's whole life has taken a sudden turn. Just when she thought it couldn't change any more, she fell in love --- with a young Haliwa-Saponi woman who appeared in her woods. Ronna and Danielle, and their menagerie of animals, forge a life in the antiquated farm house on Pettigrew Road. With help from their neighhbors, above and below the ground, they learn to follow their hearts, whether cooking on a woodstove or confronting small town bigotry. In the end, it's all about being family.
