Sometimes, when people face an event in their life with enough horror, it changes them. They become more than who they were, more than the eventual outcome of the choices and experiences in their lives. They become a survivor.
But sometimes, surviving a very long string of traumatic events doesn't necessarily leave only the physical scars. Most things a soldier will endure will leave scars that can't be seen by the eyes of their friends and even family. And these scars will take far longer to heal than broken bones and sliced skin.
Sometimes, a soldier never comes home completely, leaving a part of themselves back in the combat zone, taking the horrors of war back with them in its place.
