Overview

As the twentieth century came to a close, the rich and powerful finally laid aside their differences to face their common enemy - the common man.

The gap between rich and poor had been widening ever more rapidly. Something was going to snap. The poor knew only too well just how much they were being excluded from the wealth of the earth. The rich knew there was no escape: an exclusive lifestyle - away from the prying eyes of the masses with their mass-produced lives - was simply no longer possible. And so a solution was sought…

Using the model of HIV, a group of scientists came up with a cocktail of animal DNA and retroviruses that, once seeded into the biosphere and maintained in sufficient concentration, would create a brave new world of Creatures, half man, half animal – a world full of HalfMen to be used, exploited, enslaved for whatever purpose their new masters required.

Homo sapiens all over the world built 'Canaan', huge walled cities, to keep themselves genetically untainted. Crawling over the face of this Alter Earth, outside the human cities, were the new Creature species: human hybrids of insects, birds and animals, ManAnts, ManDogs, ManGeese…the genetic possibilities were legion. And so began a species of Golden Age for the PureBred human beings, as the fruits of the earth could now be shared amongst the very few - and the sweetest fruit of all was power.

But the milk and honey quickly turned sour and a young man from a powerful scientist family, Nicholas Archimedes, decides to destroy the new human order, setting into motion a chain of events that sees the regulated structure of CanaanUK shaken to its roots.

It all begins when into a ManDog family comes a very special baby…

About the Author

Neil Rosser has been working in audio for over twenty-five years, something he fell into by accident after managing to avoid work until he was 30. But he also fell in love with audio and became a freelance radio producer, working on programmes for the BBC, from comedy to history, from music to drama. He’s produced hundreds of hours of radio and nearly a hundred hours of television programming but in recent years has focused on audiobooks. It was directing audiobooks that gave him the spur to write his own novel.
