PreS-Gr 3-Witch Mildred is speeding along on her broomstick toward a Halloween feast when a skeleton pleads with her to take him along, so she makes room for him and others she meets along the way. Soon Mildred and her overloaded broomstick are stopped once again, this time by a black cat. "`Please take me./I need some company,/for when I cross their pathways,/people run from me!'" The six creatures squeeze together to make room for the cat, but it's more than the broomstick can handle. It breaks and the friends find themselves tumbling to the ground outside the house where the Witches' Wobble is taking place. Unfortunately all the food has been eaten so the friends head out to search for another bash. They are welcomed at a children's party and find a sturdy mop that holds them all when they leave for home. The rhyming text moves along quickly, although a few of the rhymes seem forced and uneven. The brightly colored creatures are more silly than scary with their large eyes and impish grins.
