Halo Found Hope by Helouise E. Matzelle

Machines beeping, the blur of medical staff running, a crash cart whizzing into an ICU room, was there any hope? A young woman lay, packed in ice, as doctors attempted to somehow stop the swelling in her brain that threatened to take her life... and her family waited.

Six days turned into eight weeks. She awoke to discover that she was not the same. She saw two of everything, couldn't feel half of her face, couldn't hear from one ear, and could not speak. She couldn't even tell anyone that she felt hopeless...or could she?

Halo Found Hope is the story of a beautiful, busy wife, and mother of three whose life changes instantly with the diagnosis of a rare brain tumor. An exceptional ENT, a brilliant neurosurgeon and a dedicated medical team tackle the tumor, setting off a series of unbelievable miracles.

Helo's story is not one of survival, or of salvaging a life through a broken body. It is not about endurance through pain, but victory because of it. While the family heard her silence, God heard her prayer. Helo's story is simply this: Wherever you are and whatever you are going through, God is right there. He doesn't need to be recognized by you, to be there for you. He can replace fear with courage and discouragement with determination, if you let Him. Helo did, and that is how she found hope.

Halo Found Hope is the memoir of one woman’s journey through a brain tumor diagnosis and subsequent treatment. It is a well-written account of Helo’s diagnosis, surgery, rehabilitation, and acceptance of her “new normal” following the ordeal. Not only is it a medical journey that she goes through, but a spiritual one, as well, as she learns to trust God on a new level and find her purpose on the other side of the trauma. The author is gracious and positive as she takes the reader on this journey, and I found that there were many lessons to be learned from Helo’s experience: • Have compassion for those who are going through major medical crises. • Hope in God’s love for us and His goodness. • Consider how we would respond if going through a medical crisis. • Consider how to prepare (emotionally, physically, spiritually, relationally, and practically) in advance in case a major medical trauma was to affect our families. • Have compassion for those with disabilities. You may not be able to see the disability of the person using a handicapped parking spot. • Offer hope to others whenever you have the opportunity. This book is important. It is informative. It is full of hope, and I recommend it. I received a copy of the book from the author and Celebrate Lit in exchange for an honest review, which I have given.

Halo Found Hope is a beautiful story of how a woman put her trust in God during an extremely difficult time in her life. Helo shares a powerful message about faith, love, and the bond of family. While parts of this story did at times bring tears to my eyes, I am so glad I read this book. I am reminded of how blessed I truly am, and just how wonderful God is. As I was reading this book, I came across this quote and thought I’d share it: “Fear contorts and destroys the pursuit of hope, but God is not intimidated by the enemy” (Halo Found Hope page 21). I hope this story is just as powerful and inspiring for you as it was for me! I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. This story is such an encouragement to me and will be an encouragement to others! Thank you to Helo Matzelle and Celebrate Lit (celebratelit.com) for a free copy of Halo Found Hope in exchange for my honest review. No monetary compensation was received and all views expressed are my own.

Halo found Hope - a Memoir I chose this book to review because the thought of someone else, besides my Mom, having gone through a miracle of this type was impressive. Although the circumstances surrounding the surgery were very different, brain tumor surgery and my Mom’s fracture of the colon, many of the actual days spent in the Intensive Care Unit of a large hospital corresponded so closely that it transported me back to the time we sat at Mom’s beside. God is Love, and this testimony brings it out in ways that are hard to understand and explain but are very real. Perhaps it is because of my deep faith, or because we went through a time of living and breathing prayer, but I feel that the reader of this memoir will come away with a new appreciation and new insight of the breadth and depth and strength of God’s Immeasurable Love. Once a person, or their loved one, has experienced this kind of miracle, it seems you can never look at life in the same way again. Thank you to Chris and Amy at Litfuse Publicity Group, and author Malo Matzelle for the opportunity to read this book. I received a free book in exchange for an honest review. A positive critique was not required. The opinions are my own.

My primary interest in reviewing the book was the medical aspect. I’m not sure what it says about me that I am entralled with people’s stories of medical turmoil and the healing. Maybe it’s part voyeuristic, part medical, but I do enjoy books like this. I was fascinated as I read about Helo’s brain tumor that caused so much trouble, even though it wasn’t cancerous. I had heard of a friend of a friend who had had something similar take place and it was a much larger deal than she was first led to believe, much like Helo. However, Halo Found Hope gave me so much more. I was altogether inspired by Helo’s unwavering faith, even in the face of such uncertainty and fear. She realized that she needed God to help her heal and thrive. She may not have always known what His plan was but she knew He was with her. Helo did not stop there. She continues to spread her experience with others who are struggling. She shares a number of instances where she is placed directly in the path of somebody who is struggling and reminds them of the gift of God’s grace. I’m sure there’s many other occurrences that she doesn’t tell us about, and also a good quantity more where she indirectly touched and helped somebody and didn’t even realize it. Many people were in the exact place they needed to be to help Helo survive. I’m sure God has placed her exactly to help others survive. What I found most interesting about this book was a line where Helo tells somebody she is speaking with that God knows we are not perfect and we can never be, but that’s okay. While obviously we want to be good people, we will slip sometimes but God always welcomes us. This is a rather new notion to me but it makes sense. It really changed my view of Helo to be more positive. I’ll admit it, at first Helo’s discussions about faith made me uncomfortable. But then as I read, I grew more relaxed and open to her thoughts and beliefs. I think just about anybody could benefit from this book, not to remind themselves how well off they have it, but to share the wealth of God’s love. I received a copy of this book to review as part of my involvement with Litfuse Publicity but I was not financially compensated in any way. The opinions expressed are my own and are based on my observations while reading this book.

Halo Found hope ( A Memoir) By; Helo Matzelle Wow, what a truly amazing book! A book of courage, faith, hope, love, determination and never letting go! This book truly moved me to tears at key points of this story. Halo is truly amazing with the way that she keeps her Faith in God and trusting him to get her through. So many people including myself would have given up the fight and asking God to help heal them. This is truly an inspirational story. This is not the type of book that I would have normally picked to read. There was something about it that kept nagging at me, when the opportunity was offered to review this book. I am so glad that I took the opportunity to read and review this book. It has given me a new found hope in life. Now that I have read this book through, I plan to re-read and highlight key parts that touched me in this story. Be sure to get your copy of this book! Thank you Halo for sharing your story. It has sure opened my eyes!

In this inspiring book, Heloise Matzelle shares her journey, from her brain tumor diagnosis to her recovery. What an amazing story of hope and faith! I found myself captivated by Helo’s life and her story. From the first mention of brain tumor, through the myriad of complications, and through her arduous recovery, Helo’s faith remained strong and unwavering. Yes, she was filled with questions, fear, and uncertainty, but through it all she relied on her faith in God to give her strength. Knowing that no matter the outcome, He would carry her and her family through this life-threatening situation. I was touched by Helo’s candidness and moved by her emotional story! I appreciate the opportunity to read Halo Found Hope and share my honest opinion. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Litfuse Publicity.

As a busy mom of 3, I was so able to relate with Helo. Because my mom had a brain tumor when I was younger, it's always in the back of my mind that I could possibly develop one. So when Helo went to the doctor and found out (as a shock) that this large mass was in her brain, it really hit me just how quickly our lives can change! She wrote this book as a memoir, and gave incredibly detailed descriptions of every experience... from the doctor visit, to sharing with her husband, to what all they went through in preparation, to the scary situation after her surgery, to her recovery and transformation. Her writing made me feel like I was there with her, watching her go through everything. Helo is obviously such a beautiful woman, inside and out! Her story is life-changing. It will remind you of the important things in life, and will encourage you to love and reach out to people... all people... more. I'm so thankful that she was prompted to share her story! It is a beautiful picture of God's grace and goodness, and of how different life can be when we trust Him!

"I am a survivor who recognized the One who never left me- God. He blessed me with authentic courage, and I discovered where true hope is found. I want to encourage others to hold on, and never give up. When you stumble into feelings of defeat, do not stay there. Hold on to God." ~ Helo {Halo} Matzelle. If you read this book, your natural reaction will be "What an amazing story- Helo and her family were so courageous and so resilient in the face of such a terrible diagnoses and all the complications that came with it." Halo, however, would correct you. "God is the amazing One," she would say. "Please make something beautiful out of this...." that was Helo's prayer the in days before she entered the hospital. This is a riveting personal story of one woman-wife, mother, and daughter- who faced an operation and recovery that drained her of all strength. When she would have given up, God sustained her. He carried her, restored her, gave her back to her family, and drew them together in new ways. And ever since, He has placed people in her life who need to hear her story and see what He did for her, to believe that He cares about them too. "God makes beauty from ashes; trials build genuine faith. We can rise from struggles when we ask God to be the leader of our battles. This is strength and comfort at its finest. He breathes Heavenly hope into our hearts and holds us together." This is also an exquisite testimony to the work of God and the worth of Christ in our lives. Helo knows the power of grace to conquer fear, and she points to the ever-present Mercy in our times of need. Thank you Helo and Litfuse Publicity Group for my review copy.
