Pros: Does a good job of continuing the story of the Halo universe and sets the stage for things to come in Halo 4. Actually develops some interesting characters. Cons: The last third of the book morally brow-beats you with how *awful* it was to make the Spartan II's. The book goes on and on about how *immoral* it was to make the very thing that ended up saving the human race...never mind the Spartan II's are the only reason anyone survived to be morally outraged...

This book, although filled with a multitude if plot holes relating to Ghosts of Onyx, was still a good read. And for those asking where the Chief is, you'll have to wait until they release Halo 4 this coming holiday season.

Question for all: which is better to fight, zombies or flood? I loke the flood, cause im not a dismemberd zombie kindof guy. Plus they carry guns, which makes it more dangerous. P.s flood with bazzoka equal bad.

As a longtime fan of the complex storyline of the Halo universe, I was skeptical in beginning this novel. I had a view of this universe as it was painted before the end of Bungie's reign, and was worried the new era stewarded by 343 would see the downfall of that established familiarity. I am pleased to say those concerns were improperly held. Traviss paints a wonderfully descriptive picture if the world around the reader, and is quite the accomplished storyteller. This book, and its successor, will provode the reader with a lot of backstory in the run up to Halo 4. I highly suggest reading through both, regardless of whether you have already played Halo 4, and especially if you have not yet done so.

Great book. This storyline explains a lot about Halo 4 if you pay attention to the details. This book explained why Catherine Halsey was in custody and who Jul M'Dama is. Definitely a good read for any Halo fan

I Think this book was great! I don't know what these other people are going on about saying its bad for a die hard halo fan? I LOVE halo and  I still think it was great! it really shows the point of views from groups who aren't as prominent in the games, hence why "Thel is the bad guy" and "the spartan program is awful". this book is fantastic, especially for someone like me who loves to learn the perspectives of everyone involved! Especially what you learn about the Huragok and how Relied on they became. Anyway, all in all an amazing book!!

This book makes sense if you read the others AND your actually smart enough to comprehend them.

This was a good read, no issues. I must have missed the part where humans knew that they were once at war with the foreunners though. It was mentioned several times that the didact hated humans but nobody questioned why he would have known about them. Can't wait to read more expansion on the last book where the find the very old AI that is explaining their history.

I heartily enjoyed this book. There was a lot of hate towards this novel of the halo series, but as a huge of all the halo games and books, i must say it was very well written. I am very excited to see what happens in the next book.

In my opinion, we are mislead as soon as we look at the books cover. I thought I would be enjoying more confrontation between humans and the Arbiter or covenant or even with the prophits. Instead I felt like I was reading about the US Marines or Special Forces in Iraq and Afganistan. Its not that shes a poor writer, rather its her overemphasis of the increasing internal conflicts within the Human forces. Like having that living mummy, Admiral Peringoski throw Dr.Halsey under the bus and trash the reputation of the Spartan program. Isn't the book series supposed to suppliment the video games? Lets go back to Gary Nyland or Greg Bear.

This was an good book as far as adding to the halo story. The book has a different feel to it that personaly made it a little less interesting due to the fact the book seemed to lack a character that someone would really want to follow such as the master chief or even kurt. Other than that i didn't have any big issues with they book they did leave some questions to be awnsered but that may be because they are making another book.

I really liked this book for many reasons. It combined many things I like about the halo universe. spartans, O.D.S.T.'s, and special op kind of warfare. It answered lots of questions and also made more. The first and formost question I have is where is John S-117? He went missing on the second Halo. this book takes place during the making of the ceasefire agreement btween Humanity and the Sanghelli. It also takes place with the creator of the spartan program while she and some spartans recover alien technology. The author did a fine job in filling Eric Nyland's shoes. Nyland created the novel series.this book was very good and I highly recomend it.
