The world has changed a lot in the last two hundred years. There are only eight countries left and yet international tension has never been higher. The concentration of power has done nothing to stop humanity's thirst for power and control, and sinister forces are working to keep it that way.

In half the world people regularly modify their DNA and replace normal body parts with enhanced bionic devices. The other half vilifies them for their arrogance. Soon terrorism and warfare break out on a planetary level.

Josh Carpenter is about to gain notoriety for being unenhanced in an Enlightened City. But Josh is not quite normal. As his special abilities begin to bloom, he finds himself at the center of the ultimate struggle for power. The world will face utter annihilation as good and evil fight for control. It will be up to Josh to stop the madness and save us all. Without him, all is lost.

About the Author

Karl Morgan has a lifelong fascination with stories in the science fiction and fantasy genres, whether it was the Tom Swift novels by Victor Appleton he read as a young boy, or television like Lost in Space and Star Trek, and especially films like Star Wars, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. All of those tales put the protagonist in terrible situations where the odds are against them and, yet, somehow they prevail. The reader/viewer is always left with a sense that something greater than ourselves is watching over us.

The reliance on Divine Providence, the power of friendship, and the desire to learn and grow are cornerstones of the author's Dave Brewster and Heartstone series. That continues in the Modern Prophets series, only the unseen forces are now out in the open.

These are tales of reluctant heroes who have been given powers they do not yet understand, and challenges that would seem overwhelming. Still, the hand of Fate is firmly on their shoulders and friends arise just when needed most to prevent the most despicable of evils.

Karl lives in the San Diego area with his wife, Aida, and their beloved puppies. Their two grown children have fled the nest and started their own adventures in life.

HAND OF GOD by Karl J. Morgan is a novel with clear and prominent religious overtones and themes. Such works don't bother me in the slightest, but I felt I should mention that right off, in case that isn't your thing. This novel is filled with wonderful, larger-than-life protagonists faced with impossibly large and important decisions. It's also full of villains so vile and single-mindedly evil, just contemplating their existence is frightening. The best parts are when characters you think are yin actually show traits of yang (or vice versa). Morgan did a fabulous job of creating characters rich and well-rounded, ones that will stick with you. The plot is well-conceived. It's fairly standard for an apocalyptic novel, but has some surprising twists. Some of the writing style is underdeveloped, but none of the issues were sufficiently annoying to detract from the content. Morgan is a gifted storyteller. If fast-paced, apocalyptic thrillers appeal to you, I highly recommend this novel.
