This book was interesting. It had some editing problems. There were some twists and turns, I did not expect. There was no cursing and the author's language skills were good. The book was a decent length, not too long, not too short, at about 400 pages, it was a perfect sized read. The writting style was an entertaining, very easy to understand and had a good bit of humor. No cursing, some talk of and insinuations of sex. The reader does not have to wade through blood, guts and gore. My favorite character was the bride to be. She was a tough cookie. The token gay was a hoot. The ending was satisfactory. I would recommend this book for readers 16 and up. I do not think most men would enjoy it, as it seems to be geared more to women. AD

Handbags & Hooligans, the third book in The Presley Thurman Mysteries Series, the reader follows the latest investigative adventures of fashionista / amateur sleuth Presley Thurman. Author Laina Turner weaves another entertaining cozy mystery that follows sassy Presley Thurman as she gets herself embroiled in a new investigation. Told in the first person narrative, Presley heads to Las Vegas for the impromptu wedding of best friend Anna and Jeff. While there, Presley visits with her younger brother Jesse, a black jack and poker dealer and his elementary school teacher girlfriend Ashley. But when Ashley suddenly disappears, Presley once again finds herself caught up in a missing persons investigation. Handbags & Hooligans is an intriguing cozy mystery that is filled with enough crazy antics and trials and tribulations that easily keeps the reader guessing. Just when you think Presley and friends will be enjoying all that Sin City has to offer, Ashley's disappearance has this sassy lady kicking into amateur sleuth mode, and if that isn't enough, there are dangerous mobsters to deal with, and also the distraction with her ongoing relationship issues with on again / off again boyfriend Cooper Sands, that makes it really hard for her to resist his charms. And even though there are dangerous mobsters who are out to stop Presley's investigation, she is determined to help find Ashley with the help of Cooper and her best friends Anna and Jared, even when danger is around the corner. But like they say ... "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!" Handbags & Hooligans has a good mixture of humor, mystery, and a touch of romance that will easily keep the reader engaged as they follow Presley's latest amateur investigative adventures. There is a lot that goes on between the pages of this story, the intriguing twists and turns will keep the readers on their toes, especially with the variety of crazy situations that pop up, but Presley's humorous shenanigans, and the intrigue and suspense behind the mystery of Ashley's disappearance will keep you guessing right to the very end! I would be remiss if I didn't mention that I really enjoyed the rich descriptions of the famous landmarks that grace the Las Vegas strip, it makes the reader wish they could take a trip out there and enjoy all that Sin City has to offer! The Presley Thurman Mysteries Series is an entertaining cozy mystery series that will keep the reader in stitches! Disclaimer: I received a copy of the book from the author / publisher in exchange for my honest review.

I looked at the building in front of me. It couldn’t have been more than a couple years old. Almost more of a condo feel than an apartment complex. Each unit had a decent size balcony. Off to the right, I could see the edge of the pool, and the grounds were beautifully landscaped. A far cry from Jesse’s apartment, which had a pool, but it was filled with greenish water, and even in one-hundred-degree heat, I wouldn’t have been tempted to swim in it. I wouldn’t have wanted to bother the critters living in that water. “I thought you said she was a schoolteacher,” Jared said. “She is.” “Wow. Teachers must make a lot more in Las Vegas than they do in Chicago.” Plot twists in stories make everything so unpredictable and leave the reader with interest until the end. This story provides all of the information that is needed to formalize a base plot, but then everything changes and nothing remains as it originally seemed to be. Turner keeps getting better and her novels are riveting and indulging, together making a very exciting read. Handbags & Hooligans is a novel that will leave readers guessing until the very end. Presley and her friends, Jared and Anna, are up to their same ole shenanigans again in this third installment called Handbags & Hooligans. This time though, Anna has invited Presley and Jared to Las Vegas for her wedding. Against Presely’s better judgement, she keeps her mouth shut about the groom who doesn’t treat Anna as well as she deserves. Presley becomes excited when they arrive in Las Vegas because she finally gets to meet her brother’s girlfriend—the one that he can’t stop talking about. After everyone settles in and finalizes the plans, they decide that they will all meet up at a designated location to begin the festivities before the wedding. Once the sun rises, the party starts but one person is missing—Presley’s brother, Jesse, can’t find his girlfriend, Ashley. She just vanished—kidnapped is more like it, but who would want to hurt a schoolteacher? Turner does a superb job with character development. All of her characters are continuously portrayed with accurate precision from the first and second novel within the series. The writing is a little more cleaned up—there aren’t as many grammatical and spelling errors in this as the first two either. This installment is a faced-paced novel like the others, which makes it very easy to read. If you are a reader of mysteries within a series, you will enjoy reading this third installment. It is highly recommended that readers begin with the first book called Stilettos & Scoundrels because there are many events that revert back to previous book scenes and situations.
