About the Author

Stephen Spawls went to Kenya when he was four and caught his first chameleon at the age of six. East African herpetology is his major interest; his publications include A Field Guide to East African Reptiles, Pocket Guide to the Reptiles and Amphibians of East Africa and Kenya: A Natural History.

Abubakr Mohammad is an independent researcher on the natural heritage of Sudan, and he is the country's leading expert on its herpetofauna.
