About the Author

Three career paths resonated for Kym during her early childhood: a detective, an investigative reporter, and...a nun. Being a nun, however, dropped by the wayside when she became aware of boys-they were the spice of life she couldn't deny.

In high school her path was forged when she took her first job at a dry cleaners and met every cop in town, especially the lone female police officer in patrol. From that point on there was no stopping Kym's pursuit of a career in law enforcement-even if she had to duct tape rolls of coins to her waist to meet the weight requirements to be hired.

Kym followed her dream and became a detective that fulfilled her desire to be an investigative reporter, with one extra perk-a badge. Promoted to sergeant Kym spent the majority of her career in SVU. She retired from the job reluctantly when her husband drug her kicking and screaming to another state, but writing continued to call her name, at least in her head.

HANDLED BY OFFICER might seem like an unusual name for a romance novel and it is, mostly because it’s more than just a romance novel. Set in Kansas City, the book chronicles four years in the life of Kiley, a recruit for the Kansas City Police Department. It’s there she meets Walt, a veteran officer on assignment at the academy. Sparks fly from the start but the rules apply so they can’t act on their desires without jeopardizing their futures with the department. Over the space of years and through one case, Walt and Kiley are drawn back to each other to face their attraction and find out if they are truly meant to be. The story brings to light many of the problems that face our world today, domestic violence, child abuse, the breaking down of the foster system and substance abuse. Kym Roberts draws on her years as a police officer with the Kansas City Police Department here, and the accuracy shows. As a veteran of the force, she saw first-hand what happens in cases as portrayed in the book. The plot is well thought out and definitely well executed with secondary characters that add to the story in a positive way. It’s an emotionally charged story seen from the eyes of not the victims, but the first responders. That in itself is a refreshing change of pace. HANDLED BY OFFICER did leave me wanting more but in a good way. I wanted to know more about Kiley and Walt’s life afterward, her sister Lee and her husband Mack, friend Katie and Rodriguez. I can’t wait until the sequel. But don’t wait, check out HANDLED BY OFFICER.

Handled By Officer by Kym Roberts is her debut novel and it was the perfect mix of humor, mystery and romance in my opinion. Kylie Gibbons is following her twin sister, Kay Lee, into the Kansas City Police Academy. Kylie knows on the first day that she really isn't made for this type of work but she has always seemed to follow her sister's lead. Kylie is stronger than she looks and determined to try to make it while Kay Lee, on the other hand, is thriving in the academy. Her first day at the academy as a recruit she sees Walt Raynham, who in her opinion looks like a Viking God. Walt Raynham has dreamed of being a police officer his whole life. He has worked hard to become the best. He knows from his past that his job is too dangerous to ever have a family that he might leave behind. Walt notices Kylie, too; but it turns out that he is assigned to be her instructor so he is totally hands off. Kym's story is well paced and covers about three years but the transition from current to two and a half years later is smooth. Kylie and Walt have great chemistry and it was sad for me when they had to move on without each other - for awhile. The story is filled with detailed information regarding police protocol as well as action and suspense as the story progresses. this story also was not afraid to address the issues of domestic violence and how it effects not only the immediate family but friends and family who some times just have to watch from the sidelines and pray. There are some great scenes between Walt and Kylie when they finally get together that were sensual and also very loving. The conflicts that they face together are also intense as they have hard decisions that they need to make together. The plot twists and turns kept me reading because I had to know who the bad guy was and why he was so evil. Kym Roberts did a masterful job in this debut work and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.

I enjoyed this book very much although I wasn’t sure at the beginning if I was going to. My first impression of the book was that it was hot, as in sizzling, when Walt and Kiley meet for the first time, so I had certain expectations, some of which author. For one thing the story was much more serious and emotional on a deeper level than I expected. While Handled by Officer definitely had sizzle, the focus was on the unexpected paths the Kiley followed throughout the book and the impact on people around her. At first I didn't care too much for her because she wasn't taking her role as a police recruit seriously enough, but everything that happens in HBO is there for a reason. Her time at the police academy was one of those unexpected by-ways that life sends us down that eventually takes us where we are supposed to be. I also honor Kym Roberts for addressing domestic violence as well as the subject can possibly be handled. I won this book at an on-line book party but I had already put it on my to-be-read list. As soon as I finished this one, I turned to Dead on Arrival with a horse of a completely different color. I will be looking for more books by this author.

HANDLED BY OFFICER grabbed my full attention right from the beginning and never made me sorry I decided to come along for the ride. Author Kym Roberts did a fantastic job of not just telling the story but drawing this reader into the full experience of what was happening to her characters. Never doubt there is an incredible love story at the basis of HBO, but while she's teasing us with that she's putting us at the center of the very real-to-life trauma and tragedy being played out as the domestic violence in one of the character's lives is constantly raining down on the lives of everyone else who cares about her and her children. Which is exactly how it plays out in these situations. I felt Ms. Roberts handled the subject deftly without allowing these scenes with secondary characters to overtake the feel of the entire book.

The real heart of the story is the magnetic force of deep attraction that hits Police Academy Training Officer Walt Raynham right between the eyes the minute he sees Kylie Gibbons. She's the beautiful, vivacious, curvy, new Academy Recruit with the silky blond curls that stops every sane thought in his head and replaces it with a desire to run his hands through her hair and pull her up against his body. His instincts and his body immediately recognize Kylie as the perfect woman for him, but he fights it and not just because the recruits are off limits. Walt is convinced his career, which has been his dream since he was a small child, is too dangerous to bring a family into the mix. He lost his police officer father at a young age and has sworn to never have a wife or a family to leave behind. Kylie tempts his resolve at every turn and has him breaking his own rules despite his long-standing ability to keep women at bay.

Kylie has her own issues that keep her walking away from Walt when every cell in her body craves him. One being Andrew, her long-term boyfriend, who she has always been able to rely on for security, stability and comfort. How can she walk away from a man she's loved for years for a man that fills her with lust every time he's near. A man who is off limits as her superior officer and could get her kicked out of the academy. Kylie describes Walt as a Viking God with a deep sexy voice. Tall, broad-shouldered, lean-hipped brick wall of a man with hard, rippling muscles everywhere that oozes sex appeal and sensuality. Add in the uniform and I couldn't keep the picture of my favorite sexy cop fantasy man out of my head as I was reading. That kind of visual doesn't usually happen for me, but Ms Roberts writing worked it's magic.

Handled by Officer is in turns light-hearted, funny, sensual and erotic, and then also mysterious, suspenseful, and heartbreaking. It's well-paced and strikes a fine balance with the plot which kept my interest throughout. There are several twists, a lot of love, a vindictive and violent bad guy, and then a touching HEA ending. In honesty the only issue I had with the book was there were several secondary characters brought into play, never really fleshed out, and then pretty much gone from the story. My tenaciously curious mind wanted to know more about why they were gone and it distracted me a bit. Even though none of them were all that important to the story. Obviously, lol. To fill in details would probably have bogged down the perfect pace. 4 stars ~Complimentary copy received in exchange for a honest review.

This is a great story about domestic violence and what can happen to the women that endure abuse from the men in their lives and also the children. There is so much more to this book, but this underlying story could have made the book on its own without the romance between Kiley and Walt. Part of their story is a little true based on how the author met her husband, but just a little. The author said that her editor or publisher didn't think the story was sexy enough...personally I thought there were a few too many F bombs (although I can see how the situations might warrant stronger language) and I skimmed over the bedroom scenes. There was some excellent "tense" scenes near the end as the story was coming to its conclusion.

I knew this book was coming out soon and have been checking on it daily. I'm so glad it's finally here and it lived up to my expectations. It's a little different than the usual police procedural and definitely different from the average romance. I like the combination. The author's police experience is evident and the details ring true. It appears that this is going to be a series and I'm already looking forward to Kiley's next adventures.

Wow! I can not believe that this is Kym Roberts first book! I was hooked from the start! It's very fast paced and I did not want to put it down! I loved the chemistry between Walt and Kiley. They are very explosive together. The story takes places over a couple of years but it flows really well and believably. I really enjoyed seeing how their relationship developed and the ups and downs. I couldn't wait for them to just get there happy ending! But it was well worth the wait. And when they finally did get together it was HOT! It was also an extremely emotional and sweet read. There was also some suspense. It had a little bit of everything. I will definitely be reading more from this author.

This was such a great read that it’s hard to believe that is Kym Robert’s first book! From the writing style, to the editing, to the dialogue, there is so much to love about this book. And what I loved most was watching the characters struggle and fight for every ounce of HEA they could get. Just when you thought you were going to get there, another curve ball was thrown into the story that made you have to take a step back again and wonder just how and when a happy ending might find its way into the lives of two people who fate seemed destined to keep apart. There was lots of action and suspense, and just the right amount of romance and chemistry between Kiley and Walt to tie the entire story together and keep you rooting for the two of them to find their way to each other. The fact that life kept getting in their way made the story even more engaging and made every little bit of happiness they found have that much more of an impact. I loved the tension that was always there between the two, but I also loved how they were always looking out for each other, especially when Walt steps up and…well, you’ll have to read the book to find out, but let me tell you it was great! I highly recommend this book to any fans of romantic suspense, action, mystery and romance – really to just about anybody that likes a story with a great balance of romance and action. Great job for a debut novel, I look forward to reading more from Kym Roberts in the future. I was given a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

Perfect summer paranormal read! Loved the chemistry between Kiley and Walt, their awareness and denial of each other as they searched for their HEA kept me turning pages through all the story curves. The plot and character development was fabulous. So was the unique setting. Thank you Kym Roberts for vicariously giving me a perfect Hawaiian vacation!
