Hands: growing up to be an artist by Lois Ehlert

A child watches her mother and father as they work with their hands, and she knows she wants to build and sew and garden and paint just like them. When they give her a special place to work, lots of good materials, and plenty of encouragement, she makes the most wonderful things! “It’s a work that looks simple, but encompasses at least as many grand notions as Ehlert’s first book, Growing Vegetable Soup.”—Kirkus Reviews

Lois Ehlert's expert blending of art, literature, and nature makes many of her books favorites with our family. HANDS highlights the bonds between parents and children. The story, perfect in length for bedtime or anytime, validates creativity, enjoyment of work well done, and the importance of a child's role in the family. The perfectly sized pages exhibit a three dimentional collage-like quality which is visually appealing and interesting. The text flows in a rhythmic way. We love this book. Share it with your child.
