“Hang on Jack” is the story of a problem-plagued, slacker teen who finds a new friend in Newton, a genius pig. Newton goes to Jack’s new middle school as his seeing-eye pig. Together, they conquer high school classes, make a splash in the teen social scene, defuse racial tensions on campus, and dig their family out of despair. Newton starts catching criminals and becomes a local hero.

Zephyr Carlyle is a high school English teacher and attorney in San Diego County, California. Zephyr’s students and the animals on his farmette were the inspiration for this book. He also drew on his experiences of working on the Navajo Indian Reservation, along with other Indian advocacy work.
