I had to buy the nook copy because I lent the original to a friend. I have recommended this to several people. Very good book.

I went thru a major depression for 20 years with intense physical and emotional pain in my body for the first 15 years and very close to death. This book was a 'God Sent' a few years into my depression when no one in the Christian community could help me understand or make sense of my painful suffering. I heard plenty of scripture quoting and prayer from fellow concerned Christains which only taught me they didn't understand. As I began to read this book, I knew God cared and was trying to help me understand when other closed minded believers could not. I keep it as a give away book to anyone who is suffering depression. As to anyone who thinks prayer and quoting of scripture alone is the answer, perhaps this book can help you understand why it is not. This book saved my life by leading me to the right medical professionals for help which is why I am alive today and no longer in pain. God bless these Christian Psychiatrists and authors for having the sensitivity of Christ and understanding of how painful a depression can be and the type of help that is needed to live.

Christian Fundamentalism bearly veiled in a smug air of 'It will be all right if you just beleive in God', sold as self-help for the masses. This book should be better labeled and better described. I shudder to think of the number of people with genuine physical and emotional diseases that will not seek help because of this book. God can help, this book can't. This book's cover triumphantly declares, 'Over 500,000 Copies in Print!' Unless the authors are VERY lucky and it's read by only Born-Again Christians, I view that as merely 500,000 potential law-suits. I returned my copy.

When I was told to purchase this book, I thought 'Happiness is a Choice' ... yeah right, like I CHOOSE to be depressed, I don't think soooo! I didn't think the book would be worth while at all. In fact, I thought it might try to brainwash or something. But that is not how it works. It gives you insight into depression. It gave me so much to think about. It gave me CONTROL over my depression for the first time. It didn't happen overnight, in fact it didn't happen until about a month after I finished reading the book. But the concepts put forth in this book were so profound, that I was able to say NO to depression for the first time, and after many many years of therapy and medication.

I have to say that I am only in the begining chapters, however this book is very interesting. I feel that as a masters level student I have had to do lots of research on many area's of depression. I love this book because it gives you great christian values to go along with it. All too often in my Psy. classes they do not focuse on anything that has to do with christianity. I hope that if you are feeling down or depressed that you take the time to read this book.

I appreciated the scriptures used in this book. Many of them I often refer to as the comfort scriptures. Who knows more about our imperfections and weaknesses than our creator ? Instead of a lot of 'self-help' lingo, the answer to our problem has a Biblical perspective.I especially liked the 7 points to ensure happiness. I also found the medical points very valuable. Truely enlightening !
