“I highly recommend this series!” ~Ian Rankin
If the Army had known what she would turn into, would they ever have let her go?
Charlie Fox didn’t really care who shot dead her ex-army comrade during a bodyguard training course in Germany. But when old flame Sean Meyer asks her to go undercover at Major Gilby’s elite school and find out what happened, she just can’t refuse.
Keeping her nerve isn’t easy as events bring back fears and memories she’s worked so hard to forget. And trying to blend in by playing down her abilities proves a real challenge.
She’s going to need all her skills. There are secrets at Einsbaden Manor worth killing for, and some of the students have more on their minds than simply learning about close protection.
Subjects like revenge, and murder.
And what’s the connection between Major Gilby and the spate of vicious kidnappings that have left a trail of bodies halfway across Europe?
Charlie expected training to be tough, but will she graduate from this school of hard knocks alive?
If you like strong yet believable female protagonists, who will take down the bad guys without hesitation but who are still human enough to care, then Charlie Fox is definitely for you. Readers have found books in this series an action-packed thrill ride that kept them glued to the end, well-written, gritty, and hard to put down. Real page-turners. *Revised and updated edition
This is Book #3 in the long-running Charlie Fox series. If you want to find out her backstory—how she reconnected with Sean Meyer after their time in the Army—this is where to look. If you’re more interested in Charlie’s career as a close-protection operative, then I’d recommend you begin with either HARD KNOCKS or when her new job starts with a bang in Book #4, FIRST DROP, when she and her teenage charge find themselves on the run in Florida.

*“Ill-tempered, aggressive, and borderline psychotic, Fox is also compassionate, introspective, and highly principled…one of the coolest heroines in contemporary mystery fiction.” ~Chicago Tribune

★★★★★ READER REVIEWS
*“There’s truly no one else I know of in fiction like Charlie. Male characters in action roles are a dime a dozen but a truly compelling, realistic woman, competing in a man’s world as an equal, using brain as much as skill, technique as much as power, fortitude as much as integrity is sadly, incredibly rare. Charlie Fox in all her intricate, nuanced complexity is just exactly what we need more of.”
*“Charlie Fox is one of the best female protagonists out there.”
*“New readers need not be concerned if they haven’t yet read previous instalments (although you will want to, and quickly, afterwards), as each book in the series can comfortably be read as a standalone.”
*“I've been reading detective stories for over 50 years, and Charlie Fox has become my favorite series in the genre.”
