Hard Landing by Lynne Heitman

Alex Shanahan investigates a fatal plane crash that could ground Majestic Airlines forever in this “edge-of-your seat thriller” (Lisa Gardner).

As the new manager of Majestic Airlines’ operations at Boston’s Logan International Airport, Alex Shanahan expected her fair share of turbulence—but not so much, so soon. Logan Airport is in a state of chaos, with divided loyalties tearing it apart. And hanging over everyone’s heads is the mysterious suicide of Alex’s predecessor.

There are dark secrets at Logan—especially surrounding a fatal plane crash—that could destroy the careers of everyone involved. Secrets that have already claimed lives. And Alex may be next.

About the Author

Before she became a writer, Lynne Heitman worked for a major airline for 14 years in cities around the country. Along the way, she gathered a treasure trove of experiences, which she drew upon to create the character of Alex Shanahan, the airline-manager-turned-PI featured in her four thrillers. The second book in the series, PARTS UNKNOWN (previously TARMAC), was named by Publisher’s Weekly as one of the year’s best and her short story EXIT INTERVIEW was published in the Boston Noir anthology.

This is a fantastic read. Heitman has provided a great character in Alex Shanahan. We're kept on tenderhooks as we travel through the bowels of Logan Airport with Alex as she orients herself to a new job where she's surrounded by an unsavory set of characters, nearly all of whom are her new employees. If you're looking for a whodunnit that doesn't give itself away, this is the book for you. A great addition to the mystery genre.

This book captures your intrest and then runs with it. An exciting thriller taking place in one of the most facinating industries. Awesome!

For anyone who has ever flown commercially, Hard Landing will get them thinking. I like a thriller where I can't put the book down, and Hard Landing delivers. I recommend it strongly. It won't take long to finish because you'll read nonstop into the night!

Bill Scanlon is known as the ¿man who saved the airline business¿ after he bought Nor¿easter and turned it into the profit making Majestic Airlines. Alex Shanahan, the new Operations Manager for majestic at Logan Airport used to hold a staff position. She knows Majestic has serious problems, but never expected the near riot she enters when she arrives at the hangar. Alex quickly realizes that the unions control Majestic, not management.

Alex believes she can turn things around, but so did her predecessor who eventually killed herself. Alex¿s second in command Dan Fallacaro insists that someone murdered Ellen, but disguised it as a suicide. When Alex and Dan begin digging into Ellen¿s death, they uncover more than either expected or can handle. Payoffs, corruption, and deep-rooted conspiracies mean two more nosy people must kill themselves.

Frequent fliers beware HARD LANDING because they may never step onto a jet ever again once they realize how easy things can go wrong. Although most passengers will not think of this at least until they read this exciting novel, their lives reside in the hands of the ground crew as much as their life depends on the pilot. Lynne Heitman is a newcomer, but shows she has a gift as a storyteller by keeping the reader actively involved throughout her action-paced tale that travels faster than the speed of the SST.
