This is a top shelf study Bible. I think it is the clearest of all the study Bibles that use the New Revised Standard Version text. The introductory articles are to the point. They define cultural and historical contexts of scripture. The notes for the Old Testament assume a Christian canonical approach but without great violation of a sense of the Hebrew Bible. However, this is a Christian Bible. This is a good study Bible for church and home libraries. The editors of the original and of the subsequent editions are top-flight scholars with distinguished careers. The layout is attractive and helpful. As one blurb says, precision and balance make this a highly helpful resrouce.

I borrowed this book ( hardcover version) from library. I have too many bibles of all varieties...... and this one is a MUST HAVE. if you like the KJV or NIV.. etc.. This book is something you have to take a look at. Its on the thick side, but worth it . I have to own this book. I never heard of Harper Collins and refrained from having more bibles to collect dust. This bible isn't going to be on a shelf. Its going to be a permanent part of my bedside table. I'ts amazingly strange when I'm reading the footnotes BEFORE the text. I absolutely love the vast.. vast.. ( did I mention vast) amount of information! If you don't buy this book, borrow from library for free or visit a book store and give it a looksee.
