This story is about the journey of a uniquely special cat named HarPURR who was born with all the odds against him after being found paralyzed and outdoors in Alaska. HarPURR quickly showed that his spirit was MEOWty and that he would PURRsevere to fulfill his mission to insPURRire, advoCATe, eduCATe, encourage, and demonstrate compassion!
From the PURRspective of his caregiver Shannon, take a journey from his first days in rescue to bonding with his beautiful husky Cinder, learning to use his wheels, and his valiant battle against cancer.

Being his caregiver has been one of the most challenging, humbling, and heartwarming experiences. Learning how to provide the best care possible, socializing him properly, and ensuring he has the best quality of life is an everyday occurrence. Providing a home for cats with special needs where they can thrive, inspire, and live their best lives is a daily goal. It is an honor to be his caregiver, and I treasure every single moment with him.
HarPURR exemplifies the wonderful quality of life a cat with special needs can have and shows how he is a handi-can "cat."

About the Author

Shannon R Basner was born and raised in New York and moved to Alaska in 2003. She has been a Special Education Teacher for 30 years with a speciality in behavioral disorders and has been involved in Animal Welfare her entire life. Shannon’s passion and focus has always been special needs as the attitude and the PURRception of life of these animals and people is one with which to reckon. She has always marveled and admired their ability to PURRsevere through challenges and each has demonstrated the warrior within. Shannon has helped form two non-profit organizations, Mojo’s Hope and HarPURR Kitty Warrior. Mojo’s Hope is her rescue for animals with special needs. Shannon is the primary caregiver and foster home and has the gamut of animals with special needs in her home. The mission of Mojo’s Hope is to provide a safe, healthy and compassionate environment along with humane and quality care for companion animals with special needs. The “Special Needs” designation covers many areas, including but not limited to, behavioral, emotional, physical and medical. Mojo’s Hope recognizes that when animals come into rescue, they may have special needs and each need is individualized. It is the goal of Mojo’s Hope to assist with their rehabilitation, so that those who are able to, can go to their FURever homes to live out their lives happily and successfully. For those who have lifetime medical needs or are at the end of life stage, Mojo’s Hope provides the necessary care to make their lives comfortable, filled with love and peace. HarPURR Kitty Warrior’s focus is sharing HarPURR’s mission of positivity and helping both people and animals. HarPURR has his own social media platform that helps to spread his mission and insPURRire people each time they see him and read his PURRls of wisdom.
Illustrator:
Gabriel A Hoyt, is a self taught artist from Alaska with a love for cats. After years of drawing animals and characters in notebooks and sketch pads, she tried her hand at digital art and now enjoys drawing with her tablet. She practices with different styles of pet portraits and is always looking to improve her skills. Gabriel has experience working with HarPURR Kitty Warrior and Mojo’s Hope to create illustrations and designs for their furry friends. She always strives to properly depict their amazing PURRsonalities. Gabriel believes HarPURR Kitty Warrior: Our InsPURRirational Feisty PURRnado of Love is an inspiring journey worth sharing and is excited to be a part of it.
