Wow (exhale) and wow again. Enchanting, entrancing, entertaining, and entirely absorbing, I could not believe how such a story, wrenched with life-and-death drama, could also be so utterly charming. And, how attached I became to a possum! Michael Springthorpe beautifully, brilliantly, and uniquely weaves a vibrant tapestry of laughter and tears through Harriet the possum, whose life teetered in his hands. The journey is exquisite, and I plan to give “Harriet’s Journal” as a gift to those who could use a thrilling escape into Harriet’s world that long lingers in the heart, which, come to think of it, is everyone on my list! “Harriet’s Journal” is radiantly different, luminously exceptional and a joy to read.

**Harriet's Journal is a lovely story from a possum's personified perspective. It is a heartwarming tale that takes you through the past and present portions of this tiny possum's li fe experiences. Michael Springthorpe shares his vivid imagination through beautiful descriptive words and imagery. It is quite captivating and can be enjoyed read alone or aloud. I do believe the author's style of writing reaches across generations. Harriet's Journal demonstrates a unique approach and shares a special message about unconditional love and altruism that can occur between species. I would highly recommend this book! -Ginger Chouinard

“Harriet first began keeping a journal when she was six months old. She didn’t write anything down – writing is not easy for possums, especially babies, but she kept everything in her mind…” With a first line like that, how can you not continue reading?! Springthorpe engages you from the very beginning in this truly unique book that will delight adults and children alike. Harriet is a plucky possum with a penchant for adventure, who gets into trouble when she decides to follow her friend across “the black strip.” The story is short, sweet, and ever so memorable. In fact, after personally witnessing a sad exchange between a possum and an SUV on an off-ramp, my mind went straight to “Harriet!” as I tried to hold back my tears. Thankfully, all turns out well in the end for the charming heroine in this mini masterpiece (I finished it one sitting). Would recommend!
