PI Harry Kenmare is a prehistoric private detective in an unfriendly and infinitely unjust modern world.

His life revolves around drinking, fine food, smoking, and fast women, preferably the ones he has to pay for, in cash. So what better CV for trawling through Sydney's corrupt social and political elites, who cravenly chase power and wealth behind veneers of respectability.

In this collection of seedy episodes, Harry is a dinosaur on a mission of justice, looking to shatter the hypocritical façades. And the rules don't always apply.

Join Harry in the jungle of 21st century Port Jackson, where little is as it seems and none of it is pretty. Except, of course, those gorgeous by the hour girls.

PI Harry Kenmare has a rather sad tale to tell, after some questionable (to say the least) treatment as a detective and being pushed into retirement then his daughter disappearing I felt I was rooting for him. Though yes you could describe this novel as 'classic detective' to give people the slip, it is far more interesting than just that! The other characters Patterson introduces us to is the perfect example of this, it includes Harry's closer group of friends such as hackers and sex workers in particular two lovely ladies known as Tanya and Sasha who stole my heart.

Very interesting take on the 'typical' detective story which I found to be anything but typical and loved it for this reason. Harry's World surprised me and kept me intrigued not only for the mystery and the suspense of wanting to know the outcome of Harry's struggles but also for the characters Patterson has created who I found very well written and some of them so lovable, Harry included. I enjoyed this character so much so that I would love to read more of his adventures as well as his diverse group of confidants who try to help him rid the world of some of its purest of evils.

Harry's world is a mad one. He becomes a private investigator after 'retiring' from his career as a detective and losing his daughter a few years ago which pushes him into the arms of (many) women who he gladly pays for the services of and a small circle of people he can trust throughout his mission to make his world a better one. Witty and a nice easy read, I could definitely pick up a sequel to see what PI Kenmare does next.

This was a book I started reading thinking it would be reminiscent of an old Ray Chandler or Mickey Spillane, and so it was, but that was just the beginning. Harry is an Irish ex cop in Sydney, Australia. He's tough and tender, and will do anything for his friends. He's also a sucker for a hard luck story from a beautiful woman. So much for the typical detective noir. Harry has a love for women, but his particular turn- on are women of the Professional sort, that is, for prostitutes. His tastes are egalitarian, he loves them all, and is a familiar customer at more than one such establishment. This an interesting novel, very well written, and with very well realized characters. Besides Harry, there are his friend, Trevor, and twin beauties Tanya and Sasha, young ladies working in one of his preferred houses of recreation, but planning a career in fashion. These friends and others assist Harry in his efforts to make the world, or his part of it, a better place, using his own unorthodox methods. I recommend this book highly for its humor and excitement, and hope it's not the last we see of Harry and his friends!
