This a terrific all-round great music dictionary. It not only contains references to many noteworthy musicians, even the modern ones like Miles Davis, but also many terms not ordinarily found in other music dictionaries. I'm refferring to some of the common terms that musicians actually use on gigs, not just the academic ones. The explanations are well written and make references within themselves to other topics or headings so the reader can look up related terms as well. This book also contains great pictures on different instruments, musical phrasing examples, and gives a nice historical perspective to how things developed in music through the centuries.
