Overview

Despite my slutty reputation, I was technically a virgin at eighteen. But it turns out all those sex-ed teachers aren't just trying to scare you. The faint positive on a budget pregnancy test sent me spinning, moments before meeting my sister's snooty new fiancé.

Shaking hands with upper-crusty James was like downing a triple shot of vodka. Dizzy with desire, confused by my body's reaction, and shocked by the possessiveness flashing in his eyes, I deceived him that night and told the world at their wedding reception.

The truth?

I slept with my sister's fiancé. Hot and sweaty, all night long in a room so dark he couldn't tell I wasn't her.

The lie?

Said fiancé is the father of my child. The one I signed over my rights to just before he was born.

That was seven years ago.

It's time to come clean.

Never Wanted It To End But I Couldn’t Put It Down! HATE TO LOVE YOU is the story of a young, broken girl who is faced with grown up issues way before her time and the long, difficult road that her mistakes take her down. It’s told with an embellished, over-the-top flair that can only be told by someone who refuses to take themselves too seriously and the result is nothing short of amazing. Paisley was born to two parents who thought she would be the glue that would finally heal their disjointed family. But if Paisley was the answer to their prayers, that meant their firstborn Caroline was the mistake that broke their family in the first place and Caroline couldn’t handle that. Out of jealousy and spite, Caroline devised a series of lies that shamed and isolated Paisley when she should have been protected and defended.  Being violated and then rebuked leads Paisley down a road of drugs and self-destruction. When she meets Caroline’s fiancé James, a combination of an undeniable attraction, anger at Caroline’s never-ending cruelty, and too much alcohol causes her to throw caution to the wind and embrace one night of a better life, even if it’s by pretending to be her sister. When she’s faced with overwhelming desperation at her newest predicament, Paisley makes a rash proclamation at Caroline’s wedding that changes her, James’, and her unborn baby’s lives forever. Seven years later, Paisley is still living with the consequences of her revelations and she sets out to reclaim what’s hers.  I loved every second of Paisley’s difficult journey—from the severity of her broken family to how unabashedly immature she was at the beginning of the story to the indulgent exaggerations of the story. James was alpha male to his core and I loved his every word, thought, and action. He was Paisley’s desperately needed knight in shining armor and he loved her, scars and all. Paisley made some unforgivable choices but she was also dealt a really unfair hand of cards. Some people might find Paisley’s mind reading or her pregnant virgin status too much but I thought Paisley’s personality itself was brash and flamboyant so those parts of her story fit in and added extra pizzazz to an already stellar story.  I could read about James and Paisley’s love story forever. HATE TO LOVE YOU is one of those books where I never wanted it to end but I couldn’t put it down. It’s the reason I love to read—for those books that capture me in their story and don’t let go even after I’ve finished. **Complimentary copy provided by the author/publisher for an honest review.

If you're looking for a traditional romance that is however very unconventional, then crazy this novel is for you! I read most of it in a day and that's coming from a reader who takes 3-6 days to finish a normal novel. See, Elise Alden gave me a tonne of reasons to hate Paisley, the main character, and a few even to hate James, the love interest but what can I say? I really appreciate and tip my hat to her as the author for daring to make leading characters have qualities that other authors shy away from, instead making characteristics to enhance likeability. I think inside we all want to do nasty things, think them at least, and maybe even do some them in our lives. For this reason, I completely connected with Paisley. If you're looking for a sweet, innocent, heroic and selfless main character you'd be approaching this book the wrong way. This book, in my opinion, does become selfless but it is a wild friggin ride along the way to get there. Poor Paisley has a few nasty works of art in her life, in her parents and sister. I couldn't help but expect the teenager she turned into given how they treated her growing up. James is so proper and British and upstanding ... but Paisley is a dirty little girl who knows how to reveal the inner man and boy did I enjoy seeing the layers of his character. Please do buy this book and give it a go though you might have heard opposing things. Hopefully I've straightened it all out for you. Hate To Love You is a traditional romance but written and plotted in a very unconventional way. I loved to hate, and loved to love, these two lead characters, and the supporting cast all shine, too.  Highly recommend!

This is the first review I have ever written and I have read over 500 erotic romance novels. Many books have warranted outstanding accolades, but this book by far is one of my all time favorites. I laughed and I cried which is somewhat of a rarity in erotic romance HEA. I was captivated till the end. I can usually predict the ending of a story by the middle of the book but HATE TO LOVE YOU kept me wondering up until the end. Bravo Elise Alden. I just pre-ordered your next novel.

I absolutely LOVED this book. The story line is amazing. At times it had me crying so hard my heart ached and at times Paisley had me laughing so hard with sassy snide comments and thoughts. She is a girl so tortured and beaten down you don't think she or anyone would be able to come back from. James is a arrogant snobby verile hulk of a man with a soft gentle side and a raw sexually appetite and passionate side that only Paisley ever gets to see. The chemistry beyween James and Paisley is off the charts HOT! Paisley's family are satan incarnate. This story gets so intense and intriguing at times you'll want to scream but then your heart is wrenching in your chest and you want to rip Paisley from the pages your reading and hold her real tight and never let her go. I highly recommend this book to everyone. This is my first book by Elise and I look forward to many more.

Five Stars! New Adult/Erotic Romance Released: 06/02/14 ABOUT THE BOOK: Despite my slutty reputation, I was technically a virgin at eighteen. The concept behind the plot on this had my mind spinning for days, and talking about it, and trying to figure out just how it could happen. Now, it wasn't till the end of the book that I truly got a sense for everything and say...ahhh...this make sense. In the meantime, as you're reading, you can't put it down...seriously, it's impossible. The drama, the attraction, the chemistry, and the hatred refuse to let up. The whole "can't turn away from an accident" truly applies to this book. That's what shocked me. While there were time I truly hated both the heroine and the hero, I still just HAD to know how it turned out, and yeah, despite that hatred, I was rooting for each of them the whole way. As a reader of modern romance, some may hate this, but I have no doubt others will absolutely love it. I totally recommend picking this up, sticking with it, and experiencing a complex, and very original new adult romance.

This book pulled me in all the way to the end. I could not put it down. James is so hot and dirty underneath. Not your normal love story and I loved it!

I started reading this book late at night and didn't put it down until it was finished! The characters were well developed and the storyline was emotional and angsty. I greatly enjoyed that this book was nicely edited! I am very tired of paying for books that seem to be in rough draft! Not a lot of grammatical errors in this book! Kudos to the author!

As posted on The Smutty Kitty reviewed by KittyKelly 3 out of 5 Licks Much like the title of this book, I both liked it and hated it all at the same time. There were moments I found myself unable to put it down and there were moments when I didn't want to pick it back up. If nothing else I would say this book definitely evoked emotion out of me. Paisley was supposed to be grown up and making all the right decisions now but I still found her pretty annoying at times. It was very difficult for me to want her to find happiness. The child was really the only reason I found myself rooting for her and James to get together. I wanted stability for the child and while I wouldn't consider her the most stable person in the world overall she and James were good together. James isn't perfect either. His actions in the beginning were pretty awful but eventually I liked him more as well. There is an odd bit of semi paranormal in the book that didn't really fit and popped in at strange times, but for the most part I was able to ignore that oddity. Overall the book is worth a read. Elise Alden is a new author to me but I'm interested enough to keep an out for more.
