Jade loves her new apartment—until a ghost joins her in the shower.

When empath Jade Calhoun moves into an apartment above a strip bar on Bourbon Street, she expects life to get interesting. What she doesn’t count on is making friends with an exotic dancer, attracting a powerful spirit, and developing feelings for Kane, her sexy landlord.

Being an empath has never been easy on Jade’s relationships. It’s no wonder she keeps her gift a secret. But when the ghost moves from spooking Jade to terrorizing Pyper, the dancer, it’s up to Jade to use her unique ability to save her. Except she’ll need Kane’s help—and he’s betrayed her with a secret of his own—to do it. Can she find a way to trust him and herself before Pyper is lost?

I thought the book was good overall. However I kept getting frustrated with how the author does not describe the characters or Jade's surroundings. I still have no clue what the other characters look like which makes it hard to get a mental picture. I even went back to the beginning of the book to see if i accidentally skipped over her describing how Kane looked. Also, this may seem dumb but when she gets furniture for her apartment the author doesn't describe what it looks like, or how her apartment is decorated, so you don't get a real image of what Jade's surroundings look like. Maybe I'm being picky but I like being able to picture the characters' surrounding and the other characters in the novel. It helps me connect with the characters and feel like I've been transported into the book watching their lives. If the author would have been more descriptive I would have easily given this book another star.

I really enjoyed this book, had a hard time putting it down. It had just enough romance, unlike some books, where the sex parts make up the entire book. I will read the next one in the series for sure.

I was surprised it was as good as it was. It had suspense and interesting characters and enough sex to keep me reading lol. At the end I was left wondering about the other characters lives. I like that although its supernatural it's not exaggerated and it felt down to earth. Very much enjoyed it and I would have paid to read it. I can tell you it's much better then a lot of harlequin novels lol.

Good and interesting for a free read. Characters blend well together and the plot developed quickly and efficiently. The only thing it lacked was a better description of the characters, always good to have a mental picture of what they look like and that doesn't really come across. The paranormal aspect was very interesting, a bit scary and very descriptive. You get a very good feel for it...

I love the book! I think i have a new favorite author! I felt like i was there, and there is no way not to fall in love with these characters! They are funny, sasy, and a loving group of people fiercly loyal to each other! I cant wait to read the next one! I hope there are many more Jade Coulhan books in the future!

I read a lot of pretty good reviews for this book but found myself disappointed. The character descriptions were weak...never got very attached to any of the people, even the main character. I think the plot could have had some twists and turns (I was hoping for at least one or two) but was lacking there also. Waste of time and a very mediocre story!

Entertaining fantasy ghost story for a light reality escape. It is "R" rated.

I had high hopes for this book based on all the positive reviews, but I just could *not* get into it. I found the pacing to be slow, and the characters were not very engaging. I also found myself rolling my eyes at the immediate attraction between Kane and Jade -- look, yet another book in which the super hot and sexy guy immediately falls in love with our heroine! I stopped reading after about a hundred pages. I might pick it up again to see how it ends. Maybe. -- lyradora

I'm glad I didn't let the negative reviews disuade me. Although this isn't the end all be all I liked the story...a decent portion of it anyway. The Good...At no point did I consider not finishing it. It was engaging yet I can't really put my finger on why. Ok...I guess that may not help you if you're looking for a reason to read this. Trying again...It was the story. I've never read books about aura reading etc...(don't want to give too much away). I also thought it was nifty to have the story set in a strip club in New Orleans. Btw...the name of the strip club is a hoot and it's a little disappointing that there aren't more of those little humor nuggets like that in the story. Side Note...if your looking for a great N.O. book you should try Kresley Cole and her Immortals After Dark series. In fact I would'nt be surprised if another reviewer hasn't mentioned it already...that's how much you can feel N.O. in her series. Give book 5 a try, Conrad and Neomi's story. The Bad...The characters, including the leads, Kane and Jade felt incomplete. It could be because the story is told through Jade's eyes only leaving you with her direct experiences and not much else. This is a mistep on the author's part and I could easily see liking this more if only she spent time with providing a little extra to give you a clearer picture of everything (especially the people). I gotta say...it was very smart making this a free book. You get a little taste and the story is just decent enough to leave you wondering what's going to happen next...and because it's a series and you know there is more to the story out there you can't help but want another nibble.

I like to read mysteries and this caught my attention because I am traveling to New Orleans later this year. I thought the mystery was good but there was not a "flavor" of New Orleans. It was mentioned in the story but not as developed as I hoped

For anyone who is familiar with New Orleans, Louisiana, and the people who live there, it is not uncommon to hear about witches, spirits, voodoo, etc. So when our main character Jade enters a local shop after moving there and finds a lovely old woman with magical powers, she spooks her, even though Jade has a unique ability of her own. Being an empath tends to make one more reserved when it comes to opening up and making friends. Most people will tend to shy away and be more nervous and afraid. Luckily, Jade found some great friends when she moved to New Orleans, and a very interesting landlord who also owns the strip club next door, in addition to her best friend who convinced her to move there. But what do you do when a ghost decides he wants to be a part of your life, first scaring you in your own bathroom! Then invading your dreams with a very sexy presence. How do you get rid of him? Just enough romance without overdoing it, along with great friendship and some unique adventure! A great read for everyone.

New Orleans has always had its share of oddities. Some say vampires, we all know about voodoo and those wonderful cemeteries just have to have some ghosts floating about. It seems one has landed in the newly rented apartment of Jade Calhoun. Worse than that, being an empath, she can see him! Moving to the South from Idaho was enough of a culture shock, but ghosts! Plus the hunk landlord has her bothered enough without someone staring her from the ectoplasm world all the time. Her ex-boyfriend (7 years!) basically told her she should be committed when Jade explained to him about the empathetic powers. To add wounds to an already bleeding pain, her best friend, the only one who was ever really trusted with Jade';s secret is now living with the ex. In New Orleans! Kane, the landlord; his pal Pyper and others try to make Jade welcome but there is always something holding her back. She meets a "ghost hunter" who wants to date her but only to take her to ghostly sites hoping for his own sighting. Kane is always there, in the background in his hunky clothes and ornery attitude. Will jade ever let him in? Or anyone? And by the way, who's the ghost? Or is it really ghosts? An excellent story just in time for All Hallows Eve. I hope there will be more from Jade and Kane and their crew of friends. Applause on this book and waiting for more!

This book was okay, nothing exciting, just another paranormal romance. Jade an "empathy" has a ghost in her new apartment and she finds her new landlord to be steamy hot. The characters didn't have a lot of descriptions, I knew Jade has strawberry blonde hair, but that was about it .Over all the story I felt the story was predictable. ***spoiler Her apartment sounded small, so I wasn't sure how she got all that furniture into it, and it was too predictable that she needed furniture and the landlord just happened to have some downstairs. I was surprised no one figured out there were 2 ghosts. It was mention a few times that Jade needed to warn someone about the "creepy" guy but her warning was, watch out for that creep, and the reply was yeah there are a lot of them. She's in a strip joint and she couldn't be more specific? Considering how bad the guy made her feel, I didn't get why she didn't point him out to Kane or Pyper. I wish Ms Chase GL with her series.

Scribble Watch – Brain Candy Book Review: Haunted on Bourbon Street – Deanna Chase This book is fun and gooey, although at times it is a bit tough to chew. Haunted on Bourbon Street, by Deanna Chase is the first book in her Jade Calhoun Series. Written in first person, the tone of the book hints at cute chick lit, but doesn’t go over the top. The romance is sweet and sensual – if not always exciting. The story does indulge wonderfully in the fantastical. Hauntings. Magical powers. A mystery or two. The setting of New Orleans is a favorite of mine, although it isn’t filled out much here. As for the difficult to chew parts: there were rough patches in the writing when the prose is a bit stilted and the motivations of the characters aren’t consistent. That being said, it is an fun, easy read. Brain Candy Rating Yummy flavor: Salt Water Taffy Sustenance: Light Snack
