Overview

It's Halloween, Leigh's favorite time of the year. As a rookie witch with high hopes, she has a lot to look forward to. When a mysterious supernatural force meddles in her life things take a turn for the worse and Hunter gets caught in the paranormal crossfire. Leigh's job seems to have suddenly gone sour. The public school she works at doesn't share this young teacher's enthusiasm for what they deem to be a religious holiday. To keep her entire life from falling apart, Leigh needs serious help. Once again she calls on her trustworthy but inept best friends to pull her through. Magical mayhem abounds. Leigh has a run-in with a bizarre cult bent on human sacrifice, some galloping golems, and a few pesky ghosts-not to mention stray bolts of witchcraft! Can Marie Laveau help the gang pull together an emergency séance in the historic but haunted Schlitt House? They find out some ghosts can be a real drag, possession has side effects, and exorcisms are unpredictable at best.

Oooff! When Leigh gets upset, she sure packs a wallop! In Haunting Leigh, Literal Leigh Diary #4 by Melanie James, Leigh misunderstands a note from her beau, and not only knocks his block off, but knocks his ghost right out of him! It's a race for Leigh and all her friends to track down his soul and get it back to him before it's too late.

I think this might have been my favorite book in the series. Leigh and her friends are extremely excited to have learned that they are all witches, though I am not really sure what her friends can do. Leigh has decided not to do much writing at her magical desk so as to avoid any more unfortunate spells going wrong. However, Leigh learns that her magic can come from herself without the use of her desk. Luna, Leigh's cat, brings her a note from Hunter, her boyfriend who has been living with her since the last book, saying that he found a place to live. Luna LOVES Hunter. Leigh obviously does too, but this note breaks her heart. In a fit of fury, she throws a vase at the front door at the exact moment that Hunter opens the door. WHAM! He gets hit in the head so hard that his spirit flies out of his body. The rest of the book is about Leigh's hunt for hunter's ghost so she can get him back. There are some magical mishaps along the way making the story even more interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed this book even if it took me longer to read than I intended. My kids have suddenly decided not to let me read all the time, but this book should have been read in less than a day if I had been allowed.
