Books on brian research and neuroscience are now pretty much mainstream. But one that provides a vital link between ancient wisdom and modern neuroscience is very rare. And one that does that in a simple and lucid manner is still rarer. Patt's book does exactly that. You are certain to have frequent 'Aha!' moments while you read this book. In fact i strongly suggest you don't just read the book but study and contemplate on this book. Meditation techniques have been flogged to death in books after books. But it is seldom that one is told in the language of modern sciences what goes on in your brain and body while you meditate. This book does that. Patt's thinking is profoundly influenced by the wisdom of yore and she makes frequent references to Buddhist practices and methods. She weaves the traditional with the modern with the mastery of one who has not only experienced truth directly but is able to articulate it in the language of the lay man. This book could be the missing piece of the jigsaw for students of traditional scriptures who wanted to relate the same to empirical sciences. If there is anything to complain - well, this book would seem a bit ahead of it's time for some. But for those who got the big picture, this is the kind of book you want to shout about to everyone you pass on the streets.
