Lainey is a successful television personality and her career is really taking off but she has to put her everything on hold so she can return to Texas for her sister’s funeral.  When she gets there she comes face to face with her dead sister and I don’t mean the one in the casket. Tessa’s ghost is on the scene and the only one that can see and hear her is Lainey. Then comes the news that Tessa was murdered and her ghost begs Lainey and her other sisters to find her killer. Tessa and her ex-husband ran a winery together, Lainey decides to start her search there… My  Thoughts This is a mystery solved by a woman sleuth but I wouldn’t call it a cozy. Think of a mystery wrapped up in a soap opera with adult language and themes. I LOVED IT!!!!! Tessa and Lainey may have been estranged for years but they interact as only sisters can. Tessa is a absolutely hilarious! She can crack wise all day long but the only one that can hear her is Lainey (and the reader of course). She had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard. The relationships between all the sisters living and dead are so realistic. These sisters get on each others nerves at times, they fight and make up, disagree and pair off and gang up on each other. They keep each other’s secrets and blurt them out at the worse times. They are not perfect and have made mistakes, some serious mistakes, but the sisters stand up and support one and other. They also team up to find their sister’s killer. Tessa was no saint so there are plenty of people who may want her dead so catching the culprit is not an easy task. There is also romance and soul searching in this story. Lainey needs to make some decisions. Traveling back to Texas makes her realize how much she has missed her sisters and others she left behind. Lipperman has quickly become one of my favorite authors as she writes mysteries like this, cozies like Murder for the Halibut (A Clueless Cook Mystery) and thrilling suspense like Shattered. Her unique style shines through every one. If you like your cozies with more of an edge you will love this book just like I did.

As a fan of Liz Lipperman’s Clueless Cook mystery series, I was intrigued when I learned of another series: the Dead Sister Talking Mystery series. And, Heard It Through the Grapevine did not disappoint. This is a wonderful story about the five Garcia sisters who are reunited by the death of one. You can read the story blurb above for a teaser about the story itself, so I won’t rehash that again. However, this is laugh out loud funny, with lovable characters, a strongly crafted plot, and enough red herrings to leave you astonished with the “who done it” resolution of the murder. One of my tests of a good book is the “Just One More Chapter” madness that can compel you to read into the wee hours of the morning. This book kept me entertained

Lainey Garcia is a successful television personality, with an important job interview coming up, but she puts everything on hold to return to Texas when her sister Tessa dies. Lainey and Tessa have quite the past, Lainey left town when Tessa married the man she loved. So, after Tessa's house exploded, and it was ruled murder, the last thing Lainey expects to see is Tessa, as a ghost. Lainey is the only one who can see and hear her, but Tessa asks the sisters to find out who murdered her. Tessa had made a lot of enemies, leaving a long list of suspects, some of whom don't think anyone should be snooping into this situation. I loved this book. Tessa was a hoot, smart-mouthed, wisecracking, knows the dirt on everyone in town. It was funny, original, and I loved the story. This is not a cozy due to some steamy scenes, and some language, but I did love it. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

5 STARS Heard it Through the Grapevine (A Dead Sister Talking Mystery) is a cozy mystery. Their is some love scenes and sex talk with different characters in the story. One character is even a porn star. I enjoyed reading Heard it Through the Grapevine. Elaina comes home for her sister's funeral. Never mind that they have a feud and have not spoken for years. Lainey has not been home for years. She sees her other sisters and talks with them. Did not even tell her boss/boyfriend that she even had another sister named Tessa. When Lainey sees her sister in the casket she screams because her sister is also standing by the casket. No one else can see or hear her. Her three other sisters thinks she broken down because she and her sister never made their fight over. It takes a lot of talking with Tessa's ghost giving a lot of private information that the sisters kept secret from each other. Then started to believe Lainey was really seeing Tessa. Tessa asks them to solve her murder. She has no idea who would kill her. She leaves most of belongings to her daughter and Lainey. Tessa owned a half of a winery. Tessa slept with lots of guys. She had two ex-husbands. One little girl that lived with her father Colt the Sheriff of Vineyard, Texas. Lainey had loved Colt since she was 15 years old and Tessa marrying him was what their feud about. Colt only thought of her as Tessa's little sister. While Lainey and her sisters try and find out who had motives people keep ending up dead or threatened. Colt keeps warning them off the investigation but Lainey does not listen to him. Lainey ends up staying on his ranch in the guest house after the hotel turns out dangerous. They have to get around the knowledge that Tessa tells them about her last day and information they should not have. Tessa is a wise cracking ghost and makes Lainey laugh at the wrong times. Their is a lot about Tessa's character that I don't like. But their are a lot of different characters who have reasons to kill her. I would read another book from Lizbeth in the future. I can see some more books in Dead sister talking. I was given this ebook and asked to give honest review of it when done by Netgalley. 05/08/2013 PUB Midnight Ink Books 336 pages ISBN-10: 0738736023
