Overview

Is she the only one "dirty" in church?

A provocative look at the modern church and how our safe environment has cornered us.

Leah, the youngest homeschooled daughter of a music pastor is already twenty years old and no one has approached her father to ask for her hand yet. She has secret ambitions that don't include courting a man chosen for her—anything that involves an adventure.

When accusation divides the church during Sunday morning service, her illusion of safety shifts like the shadows in the sanctuary.

In the aftermath, a handsome intern pastor is poised to help the church transition back to health. To prevent being duped again, Leah begins to spy on others. What starts out as curiosity, borders on voyeurism. But it might be worth it when it reveals rogue Christians, leaders with secrets and a plan that involves her.

Hilarey's second engrossing suspense in the Breaking Bonds series proves that sometimes the most dangerous adventure can happen in your own church.

You've done it again!  Keeping me up till 3am night after night, because I can't put your book down! You've managed to write another incredibly intriguing and spiritually suspenseful story. Totally different than anything else I've ever read.  You just don't find this kind of honest writing from a Christian perspective. Love the series. Love the contrast with the first one, yet similar and entwined. Such a truthful and revealing look into areas of life and the church we want to ignore. I highly recommend this to anyone, but it would be best  to read Sovereign Ground, the first one in the series, first. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you for the opportunity!

Once again Hillary sucked me into a one of her books. This book stuck with me for days even weeks  after reading it. I loved the gentile spirit of the main character and her strength and vulnerability. An added complexity of the men in the story was a great surprise. This story lets you see how painful  and hard a church split can be. Making a personal exam of my christian walk essential. This book would  be acceptable for a young teen or older. Receiving The Heart of Petra for free in exchange for a review  was a honor.

A delectable ride with a character who blooms despite her surroundings. The plot was tight, resonant. More than once I finished a chapter with chills down my back. While I personally gravitate toward more action-adventure plots, this one was enticing enough with its mix of mystery and shame and slowly dawning freedom that I blitzed through the book in two days. Who woulda thought a church split story would be a page turner? Wow! Johnson writes with a candid, unobtrusive voice that reveals her full-fleshed characters to best effect. This was a wonderful follow-up to Sovereign Ground. I look forward to any future installments in this series that Johnson pens! Disclosure: I received a free copy of the Heart of Petra in exchange for my candid review.
