Her eloquent prose makes you feel the character's torments and indecisions, as well as their gradually evolving, soul-deep love." -- The Old Book Barn Gazette

Miranda "Mira" Holcombe has only one goal in life: To destroy the Duke of Tallant, Jermyn Keynes. Simply for the pleasure of it, he ruined her life, robbed her family of their land and valuables, and now threatens to destroy them entirely. How can a young woman caring for her disabled father bring down a powerful aristocrat? Only her father knows her deepest secrets, and he hopes that in London she will find a kind and gentle man to wed. But Mira is focused only on vengeance, whatever the cost. As she devises a plan to kill the duke, she discovers that Tallant's dark-souled younger brother, Michael, is bent on the same course. Can she believe he'll help her? Dare she trust him?

Michael Keynes once burned with dreams and goals, but all have been consumed by his determination to rid the earth of his tyrannical brother. After meeting the irresistible Mira, his mission changes. He resolves to protect her at any cost, and when the duke is found murdered, Michael deflects suspicion onto himself. But can he save Mira from her worst enemy . . . herself?

Neither can deny the electricity between them. Mira bewitches him with her sharp tongue and quick wit. Michael captivates her with his rakish brand of honor and his brilliant scheming on her behalf. Will she be able to escape the past and dare to reach for a better future? Will Michael see beyond the family's despicable heritage and make a new start in his own life? Can they redeem each other?

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Returning to England from India after doing his best to sabotage his depraved older brother's questionable business interests, adventurer Michael Keynes has one thing on his mind-fratricide. But he isn't the only one with a reason to kill the dissolute Duke of Tallant; the ethereally lovely but inwardly intrepid Miranda Holcombe has lost everything imaginable to the duke and plans a murder of her own. The results, of course, are unexpected-and romantic. Deeply conflicted, honorable, and effectively rendered protagonists combine with a darkly intense, complex plot to create a beautifully written novel. Although it features some of the same characters as its predecessor, The Golden Leopard, Heart of the Tiger stands on its own; nevertheless, fans may want to read the series in order. RITA Award-winning writer Kerstan lives in Southern California. Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.

By: Lynn Kerstan Published By: Onyx Age Recommended: Adult Reviewed By: Arlena Dean Rating: 4 Book Blog For: GMTA Series: The Big Cat Trilogy #2 Review: "Heart of the Tiger" by Lynn Kerstan was the sequel to 'The Golden Leopard' in the 'Big Cat Trilogy.' In this novel we will be introduced to Michael Keynes, who was the 'younger brother of the execrable Duke of Tallant and whose sole aim in life is to kill his brother.' This 'Duke of Tallant' is know as "The Beast." Now, the story really get interesting with Michael meeting Mira who hates the duke as he does. Now, this is where I say you must pick up "Heat of the Tiger to see where and how the author will lead us. This was a good murder mystery to the story which will be a 'catalyst for a chain of events that will show us how far both Michael and Mira will go and I will leave it at that. This is definitely a novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat turning the pages to get it all. In the end will Michael and Mira get what they wanted? "Heart of the Tiger" was one good read that if you are into historical romances you have come to the right place and I would recommend this read for you.

In 1823, after spending years overseas, Lord Michael Keynes returns home from India. However, he does not return to the family fold, but instead plans to kill his older stepbrother, the notorious Jermyn, Duke of Tallant, not because he wants to inherit, but because he detests his abominable sibling. Jermyn looks forward to the confrontation with an eye on a different outcome....................... Michael, accompanied by his Indian friend Hari Singh, rents a room at the estate of Beata Neri. Also residing there is Mira Holocombe and her wheelchair-bound father, who has almost no muscular movement. Jermyn drove them off their estate. Even though he knows better, Michael falls in love with Mira, but fears that if Jermyn finds out she will become an endangered pawn in their life and death contest. Mira reciprocates Michael¿s feelings, but seems to react with horror whenever Michael touches her. There is someone else who wants both brothers dead.................. HEART OF THE TIGER is a delightful Regency romantic suspense novel with some eastern paranormal elements to freshen up the plot. The characters for the most part are a wonderful group as their uniqueness makes each of the key players and the plot come alive. Jermyn is too evil to take seriously except as a viable threat and even that proves minuscule. Still sub-genre fans will appreciate Lynn Kerstan¿s tale and look forward to the next story starring another Michael enemy, the Archangel.............. Harriet Klausner
