This is a very good book. The author got a bit wordy and it is kind of long and drawn out. But still very much worth it. JS

This is truly a wonderful story that is very obvious that the author took a great deal of time and love to create such a story! Thank you for your hard work, I very much appreciated reading it.

Our family lives in Prescott, Arizona so it made reading this novel so much more interesting and real for me.  Karen Baney is an amazing author, her character development allows you to feel like you know the people on a first name basis.  There are the ones  that you love like Julia, Hannah, Adam and Drew & Betty.  But then there is also Reuben…I wanted to rip out his heart.  I love historical novels and this book is set right here in Prescott so it was very interesting and so many of the facts were true.  Karen loves the Lord and that is woven throughout the story.  Not too much, just the right amount.  I loved this 2nd book in the series and can’t wait to read the 3rd one.  I give it 5 stars out of 5.

A Heart Renewed is the second book in the series Prescott Pioneers by Karen Baney. The story takes place in Arizona Territory, when the territory is just being settled. In the first book, we were introduced to Will and Hannah Colter. In this sequel to the story, Will’s sister Julia is the main character. The author did a great job in developing Julia’s character and relaying the feelings and emotions of her abused relationship to the reader.  I enjoyed reading the continuing story of Will and Hannah and thought it GREAT that the author brought in Thomas Anderson. Forgiveness is very important in life and I believe that the author did a very adequate job at sharing how important forgiveness is in the life of a Christian or anyone. I cannot wait to read more about Thomas!  Adam Larson was the perfect character to match Julia’s character. The author did an excellent job at match making these two characters. She brought Adam in from Julia’s past and introduced him to us. I did think that he should have received a letter from his parents in response to his fast departure though. It would have given a glimpse back into his family and their acceptance of him.  The author left us hanging with Reuben’s departure of his Texas Ranch. I think she could have touched back on him or killed him off instead of just had him leave the ranch. What about his wife and children?? Maybe another book in this series will be about her. I liked the layout of the book, as in having the thoughts or when God spoke being italicized. Italicized thoughts always help my mind realize that it is not allowed, but inner self-speaking. Most chapters opened with the date, year, and place. That helped me organize in my mind why certain things were happening or why they wore this and not that or said this and not that.  Throughout the book I came across a few spelling errors, words inserted that should not have been, and sentences that did not a flow. Several times I had to stop and reread the sentence because it was either wordy or worded differently than the others, such as tense and grammatically character. I enjoyed the author’s note at the end that gave the real versus fictional facts! Overall this book was super!! I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading historical romance with a Christian theme.  *I received this book from the author for an honest review.

I have really enjoyed reading this series which takes place in the mid 1800's. Makes me appreciate my washer, dryer, hot showers, etc. Those pioneers were made of good stock!! The author presents the story in such a way you feel you are living right along with the characters on their adventure.

I really enjoyed reading this book, the second one in the Prescott Pioneers Series. What a great movie, or continuing TV show this series would make. Hannah and Will are now married and living on the beautiful ranch. Will has offered a good neighbor from back home in Texas a job training Horses. Adam Larson has agreed to come and needs to reply and let Will know. In the mean time Julia has not heard from Will since he left, except that he had arrived in Arizona. Her Dad at his passing had left her in the care of her older brother Reuben. Reuben has put himself in a great deal of debt and has decided to Marry off 17 year old Julia. He picks old, obnoxious men, with money to give him. When Julie manages to throw them aside, he is furious and beats and does much worse to her. She runs away to her friend Caroline Larson. Once Caroline finds out what has happened she convinces Adam to leave immediately and take Julia with him. He agrees and so starts Julia's and Adam's adventure to Arizona. Am so glad that we get further visits with Betty, Paul and Ben, among others. We also meet up again with Thomas Anderson, Drew's brother. I am also happy that there is another book in this series. You won't be able to put this one down once you start reading. Enjoy! I received this book from Author Karen Baney, and was not required to give a positive review.

While a continuation of the first book, A Heart Renewed could be enjoyed as a stand-alone. The story begins at the family ranch in Texas in 1864. Reuben, Will and Julia's lives were drastically changed when their father died. He named Reuben as the guardian of Julia, but it may have been a huge mistake. Will left Texas to begin his own ranch in Arizona, yet he always felt bad about leaving his sister behind. When situations get totally out of control in Texas, Julia is forced to leave in the middle of the night and she heads to Arizona to the safety of her favourite brother. Julia has a difficult time dealing with her painful past and she doesn't think she deserves happiness and a normal life. Forgiveness is a key dynamic of this inspirational story. A Heart Renewed clearly demonstrates the importance of forgiveness ... not just for the person who has caused the pain, but also for the person who has been hurt. For anyone who loves historical romantic fiction based in a western setting, consider checking out The Prescott Pioneers series by Karen Baney. You won't be disappointed!

I was excited to start reading book 2 of the Prescott Pioneers as soon as I finished the first book in the series but I have to stay, I was not prepared for how much I would LOVE this book! A Heart Renewed blew me away! A Heart Renewed continues the story about the Colters and the Andersons. The story starts with Julia, Will's sister, who is now in the hands of their older brother Reuben. Reuben is angry, mean and in lots of debt and tries to marry off Julia to the highest bidder so he can get himself out of the whole he dug! Meanwhile back at Colter Ranch, Will and Hannah begin their married life and start up the business that Will has begun. When tragedy strikes Will's sister Julia, Julia flees to her neighbor and friend Adam and he decides her life is in danger and sets out to take her to her brother Will. Adam had already planned on going to see Will to become his horse trainer at the Colter Ranch so he easily agrees this is the best plan. Brother and sister get reunited again and the real story begins. Karen starts this story off with a bang and right from the beginning you get immersed in the life of Julia. Again, I felt very connected to the characters. While I liked the first book, this book I could honesty say I loved! The characters were so deep and meaningful that you really felt like you were a part of the story. There was a few times I teared up and just wanted to get in there and hug Julia to help her deal with the trauma that she was going through. Julia was such a powerful character, so real and raw, she was a tomboy at heart and held strong to her values in love and marriage. I felt Karen did an amazing job with connecting the reader to Julia and making that character and her pain very realistic! Adam was my favorite character though, he is handsome, quiet and oh so respectful! I just love a hero that is not quick to speak but a bit timid! He gets his patience tested many times but remains calm. Karen also had a way with blending the stories of Julia and Adam with Hannah and Will that easily flowed! Their two lives merged together which I was thankful for because I definitely wanted to hear how Will and Hannah were doing now that they were married and she didn't disappoint. Again there was a history lesson going on throughout the story but in this book I felt the history flowed a lot better and didn't take away from the story at all. There was a lot more character dialogue too. The romance was sweet and clean. The spiritual threads in A Heart Renewed were mild but oh so powerful and the message didn't take away from the story. I felt the issues that Julia was dealing with about God were very realistic to the situation and I enjoyed watching her faith grow as the story progressed. The spiritual message I learned most was that God's heart breaks when we are in pain, he wants us to come to Him and to seek His peace and love through the heartache and he will give us the strength to keep moving forward! I received a copy of this book to read and review from the author. My review is not biased by the fact that I was given this book. I HONESTLY read and review any book whether bought or given to me. If I did not like the book I would definitely not give a rave review or recommend it.

"A Heart Renewed" is the second book in the Prescott Pioneer series and picks up right where the last book left off. It is the story of Julia Colter, the youngest of the Colter children. Her brother Will is settled in his new home wih his bride Hannah, and Julia wonders why she never received any letters from him. They had been very close all thier lives, but when her father's will stated that she was to be left in the care of her brother Rueben, Will had no choice but to follow his wishes. Rueben is a smooth talking charmer who has fooled everyone around him except for Will and Julia, they knew he was ruthless and had no qualms doing whatever he desired regardless of who he might hurt. When Rueben's debts are more than he can pay he decides that he will find a wealthy man marry his sister off, actually it was more like "selling"her. When Julia finds a way to thwart her first suitors attentions, Ruebens wrath is merciless, but when he finds another suitor and Julia wont go along with his plans, he decides he will break her spirit and commits an evil act that will change Julia forever. When she runs to the Larson ranch and tells Caroline what her brother has done, the only answer is for Julia to leave with Adam, who had already secured a job with Will as a horse trainer at the Colter Ranch in Arizona. Will Julia finally find safety with her brother Will, and will she ever be able to let go of her past and find true love? I couldn't put this book down. The author easily pulls you into the story of Julia. My heart totally broke for the mistreatment she suffered at the hand of Rueben. The fears and feelings that Julia expressed were totally expected for someone who had been through such an ordeal. While she had a fear of men, she was able to rely and depend on Adam, and as their feelings develop for one another Julia is plagued with doubt that once Adam really knows what happened, that he could never love her. Adam was such a good, kind man exactly what Julia needed. While Julia questions her faith she comes to the realization with the help of her friends, that the only way to find peace is to forgive. I enjoyed following Hannah through her pregnancy, and seeing Will, the strong rancher become such a worrywart where his wife was concerned. The secondary story of Thomas was quite interesting, and I loved the flavor of the civil war that was woven into his story. I did wonder what happened with Rueben, but I am sure we will get the answer to that question in the next book. While this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone work, the author provides enough background information that you don't feel like your lost. Although its such a great series I highly recommend picking up the first book titled A Dream Unfolding. The authors next book in the series titled "A Life Restored" is due out later this year, and I for one am totally anxious to read it. If your a fan of historical romance, set in the west that has a nice christian theme you should certainly add this series to your reading list. I was provided a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

"You cannot be serious, Reuben!" Julia Colter shouted, not caring that she might wake her niece and nephew from their afternoon nap. Pacing back and forth across the length of the kitchen, she stopped in front of her older brother, her temper flaring almost as hot as the stove. "He is balding and fat and twice my age!" "You will marry who I say!" Reuben thundered. "I expect you to treat Mr. Hiram Norton with the utmost respect this evening. He has shown great interest in you and the least you can do is be civil with the man." "But, I could never love him!" As Reuben shoved her violently up against the wall, Julia's breath left her lungs in a rush. Digging his fingers into her arms, she could feel the bruises starting to form. His brown eyes darkened with unrestrained anger as he glared down at her. She swallowed in fear, stunned by his abrupt action. "Stop, you're hurting me," she said, trying to break free from his vice like grip. He raised his hand as if he meant to strike her - something he had never done before. The action startled her to silence. Instead of hitting her across the face, as she thought he might, Reuben returned his hands to her upper arms squeezing even harder. Leaning so close the heat of his breath warmed her cheeks, he said, "You have no idea what hurt is Julia. You are an insolent little whelp. You will paste a smile on that tart little face of yours. And you will do your best to win his affections or, " his voice menacing, " you will suffer my wrath, the likes of which you have yet to see." (pg 1). So opens the sequel from the Prescott Pioneers #2, A Heart Renewed by Karen Baney. It picks up with the continuing story of A Dream Unfolding, the first book in the series, with Julia Colter, the youngest sister of Reuben and Will. Will has begun a new life in the Arizona Territory of Granite Creek with Colter Ranch, now happily married to his wife Hannah. Julia has been left in the care of his oldest brother Reuben, after her father's recent death. She finds that her brother's only regard to taking care of her is finding someone wealthy enough to take her off his hands and be willing to pay more than enough for her. Reuben has squandered his father's remaining financial holding in a series of gambling debts and if he can't find a way out, his own blood will be shed. When her brother's abuse grows too much and he does the unspeakable to break her stubbornness, Julia flees to her only friend Caroline. After confessing the horrors of her brother's treatment to Julia, she finds the only way she'll be safe is if she leaves tonight with her brother Adam who is heading to Colter Ranch in Arizona to help Will begin raising horses. What they will find along the long journey is that God will always find a way to reach out in forgiveness to restore hope and renew His promises that He will take care of those that call upon His name. I received this eBook, A Renewed Heart by Karen Baney, compliments of Karen Baney for my honest review. After falling in love with the characters of Will and Hannah, I could not wait for the next book to come out to see what fate would befall Julia being left behind with her cruel brother Reuben. I can honestly say I was not disappointed.
