Audio Portion: The narrator for Heartborn was fantastic. She had a crisp, clear voice that I could perfectly understand even with the speed turned up. She also made the story sound really good. I was more keen on listening to her voice throughout the story because it was so soothing. This audiobook was not long; clocking in at 6 hours and 20 minutes. Throughout those six and a half hours (less because I had it on 1.5x speed) I did not lose focus. I even sat down with almost 4 hours left just to finish it because I was so interested. My one complaint about the narration was that she made all the men sound the same. I could not tell the difference between the male characters as I could the females. It made listening difficult, especially when there was more than one man in the scene. Story Portion: I left confused. I really enjoyed the story that was told, don’t get me wrong, but I have questions. Such as: • Why is Keiron so well adjusted to the human world? • What the hell is a Heartborn? • How does a 17-year-old have a full time job? • Why isn’t Livvy in school? • Where does Keiron live in the human world? I need those to be answered so I can actually understand what the heck is going on in this dang story! Besides all my questions, I did like the story. Like I said above, I sat down just to listen to the story so I could know what happened! Besides the vagueness, the story was very well written and entertaining. I absolutely loved Livvy. She is one tough cookie that has not let having half a heart get her down. Even though she can’t fully live life, that doesn’t stop her. She isn’t sad and moping about her situation, instead she does what she can and doesn’t let herself let a moment go by that she isn’t savoring life. I wish I had more from Keiron’s perspective. He was a very vague character that suddenly appears in Livvy’s life for a few day’s and suddenly she is dating him. Like what? It took me over a year of getting to know my boyfriend before we started dating. That doesn’t just happen! You can’t go around kissing people in a library, that’s not how it works. Though, it might. This was a YA Fantasy novel. Anything can happen in them. All in all, I loved Heartborn. I need my questions answered and I hope that there is a sequel so I can continue on with the story and also have these pesky questions answered! I do wish I had the book in my hand to follow along with, maybe I would’ve found the answers to some of those questions. Plus, there was some really good quotes that I wished I could’ve highlighted! I would recommend reading or listening to this book if you are into angels and strong female characters. Oh, and one hell of a plot twist.

I was provided an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book was fantastic! When I read the description of the book, it in no way prepared me for what I would read. It was so much more! From the wide range of characters, to the imaginative settings, this book had everything you could want in a YA fantasy book. I seriously don’t even know how to properly describe this book without giving away too much. You need to read it and savor it, because his writing style makes you feel like you are right there alongside the characters. House Windhook is one of the most prominent houses of angels in Sliver. Keiron, the youngest son of House Windhook, is pushed to earth to find the girl that will save them all. He is her guardian angel, and he will do whatever it takes to save her. Livvy is a seventeen year old teenager with a heart defect that lives her life through the pages of a book. When she meets Keiron, it sets off a chain of events that will alter life as she knows it. Let me tell you, while I was reading this book it made me happy, it made me sad, it made me angry, it made me anxious. It brought out so many emotions, and you know you have found a great book and author when it can elicit so many emotions. It makes you think and use your imagination to see the world he creates through his writing. I have a serious book hangover on this one. You NEED to read this book.

He was a being of purity and love, a guardian angel, destined to be a hero and savior. Keiron’s world is one of violence, of deception, but the day he was pushed through time and space he fell into Livvy’s world and that was the day he knew his destiny would be fulfilled and this broken girl will become his reason for being. Livvy has had a lifetime of pain and suffering and she knows it will be short. Her heart has never been whole, but Keiron becomes more than just a friend as he changes a lonely girl’s life into one filled with joy and hope for the future of Keiron’s world of angels. Terry Maggert’s Heartborn is a magical tale of love, sacrifice and embracing your purpose in life. Written with an easy cadence, this tale feels almost part of the mist on a foggy day. A beautiful tale of holding enough love in your heart to give the ultimate sacrifice for those you love. Told to target the hearts and imaginations of young adults, the emotions are front and center, the youthful romantic feelings are sweet and the message buried within is beautifully done. I can definitely see a huge audience from all age ranges becoming mesmerized by this sweet fantasy tale. I received an ARC edition from Terry Maggert in exchange for my honest review
