Overview

Heartstone by Phillip Margolin

They were young, popular, the perfect couple -- an all-American boy and a beautiful cheerleader. But the youthful passion that led them to Lookout Point that terrible evening would prove fatal. For Richie Walters the end came swiftly, as death descended upon him in a savage orgy of horrific violence. Elaine Murray would live long enough to learn just how lucky her boyfriend had been ...

Two brutal slayings have rocked a stunned city. But the murders are merely the nightmare's beginning, flinging open a terrifying Pandora's box of sordid secrets and dark revelations more deadly than the bloodlust that lives in the rock-hard heart of a killer.

This book left me in a disturbed state of mind. Mainly because of the killers complete disregard for human life. Also most of the people were characterized as stressed and living unhappy lives. The character of Esther was really annoying and her hypnotic sessions were lengthy and boring, enough that I skipped most of them. This was a dark and gloomy read. The style of writng and text was not of my liking. So I will leave it up to the reader to decide.

I have read several of Phillip Margolin's books and thought they were well written so I was excited about listening to this audiobook. I wasn't impressed and didn't think it was a page turner like several other reviewers thought -- there were several times it was so drawn out that I almost gave up on listening to it - caught myself not really concentrating because it didn't keep my interest. I won't give up on him though because he is a good author -- but just didn't feel as though this was his best. To each is own though. I would also recommend, Lisa Jackson, Robert Crais, Lee Child, Greg Iles, Iris Johansen, Allison Brennan, Nelson DeMille, Lisa Gardner, Michael Palmer, Steve Martini, Lisa Unger.

A good read with a few twists. A very good first effort from the author.

I have only two books that I find myself reading again after a year or two, this book being one of them... excellent thriller!

This was my first Phillip Margolin book and it was incredible. I couldn't put the book down. It kept you guessing until the very end. I highly recommend this book!

This was one of the best books I have read recently. There is no way to anticipate what the next chapter will bring. Its the type of murder mystery that you want to read to get to the end, but you don't really want the story to end.

Horrible! If I could leave no rating at all or a half a star, that would sum up my feelings about this read. I have always loved Margolin's books, have read ALL of them except for one other so far. He has always kept me on edge with his absolutely wonderful thrillers and depression set in when I was running out of his books to read. If I would have read this book first, I would have never read another Margolin book. Got the first three from my library and that got me hooked. Luckily, it wasn't this one. It seems as if the plot and characters are all over the place. Anyway, just my two cents' worth. I haven't even read one third of the book and I doubt I will finish it.
