Heat: Club Inferno by Jamie K. Schmidt

USA TODAY BESTSELLER • Style and seduction collide as the world’s best-dressed men and women shed their clothing . . . and their inhibitions.
On the run from her abusive fiancé, ER doctor Mallory Bryant arrives at her sister’s Connecticut resort desperate for a place to restore balance to her life. But Club Inferno is more than a haven for the rich and fashionable. Beneath its elegant facade, dominants and submissives play out their fantasies. At first, Mallory is wary of Max Spencer, the martial arts trainer acting as her bodyguard—until he introduces her to passion so intense she wants nothing more than to surrender to his touch.
As one of Club Inferno’s most skilled doms, Max enjoys taking Mallory to the limits of pleasure. It’s a dangerous proposition, and as their sensual games draw them into a relationship beyond the boundaries of pupil and master, Max starts spiraling out of control. But when Mallory’s violent past catches up with her, Max knows what he must do: draw her closer than ever before, even if it means risking a surrender of his own.

Heat is intended for mature audiences.

HEAT was the second book I've read this week featuring an abused doctor heroine and a Jack of all trades hero to include a master of Kinbaku (Japanese rope bondage), tantra instructor, martial arts trainer, MMA fighter, and when necessary, bodyguard slash babysitter. Also, and this was a big part of his past and present, he could sew and was working on his own line of sports wear. Max was supposed to be a Dom, but besides giving a few orders, I found very little of him to be dominant in the true sense. And more often than not, Mallory ended up topping from the bottom. He did have a bit more depth than I thought he would have. He didn't like being treated like a piece of meat, he didn't approve of anyone who looked down on others, and despite his father having been an abuser of everyone in his family, he kept the deathbed promise to his mother to take care of his ailing father. All fine qualities to have. As for Mallory, I couldn't connect with her because, quite frankly she baffled me. She was a victim of domestic absue who decided not to get help, thinking she could fix her fiance, until he took things too far (after getting hit a few times, I was surprised there was such a thing as a “last straw” with her). Initially, I understood why she ran away to get herself together and weigh her options, but as the story progressed, I was confounded. Her mood changes between acting as if she wasn't broken to claiming she was broken and scared gave me whiplash. As for her character arc, she made some progress, but I feel as if it went downhill near the end of the story. I understood her reluctance to press charges, but after enough time and support from the friends around her, I couldn't believe that she did nothing but think of herself. What if he had gone on and done the same thing to another woman? She was more concerned with just wanting to forget everything. The story started out well enough with a good idea and good descriptions of her sister Colleen's setup. But there was a lot to keep straight between Couture which was an exclusive spa slash nightclub slash sex workshop with demonstrations and instructors. It was also the (vanilla) front to her kinkier operations, Hot Spot and Club Inferno. There was a little drama in the form of the rich and *cough* slutty female clientele who threw themselves at some of the Doms, including Max, much to the ire of Mallory. Normally that type of behavior would get shut down really quickly. Some of it just seemed really petty. The Bottom Line I really wanted to like this book because the blurb and the cover drew me in. However, this story didn't hit the mark. Instead, I found it following a pretty common and overused formula. This story could have been really good had the story been tighter. Max had so many different things on his plate that it was rather distracting, nor was he especially dominant in the way that it counts. Mallory started out insecure and pretty much remained that way up until the very end. Their relationship moved almost too quickly with parts of it developing off page and with more sex than important relationship dialogue. The secondary characters were a saving grace: Colleen, Anya, Nefertiti and Istvahn. If they get their own stories, I would definitely pick them up. Complimentary copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley for an honest review. I reviewed an uncorrected proof. It is possible that some events/quotes were changed prior to publication.

¿A fabulous combination of scorching heat and ascerbic wit!¿ My rating: 4 of 5 ¿¿ It wasn't easy for Mallory Bryant to seek the help from her sister, but after leaving an increasingly abusive situation with her fiancee and having run out of resources after two months on the run, she had no choice but to put her dysfunctional family issues aside and put herself at her older sibling's mercy. An ER physician and normally the 'balanced' one of the sisters, feeling this afraid and unsettled is out of character for Mallory, which is why her sister Colleen arranges for some security to be in place. Couture is a resort with a dual purpose, one part catering to the up and coming in the world of fashion and design and the other more obscure part caters to the world of the erotically creative. Max Spencer is an aspiring designer who is also one of the resort's highly specialized Doms and a martial arts trainer. What he hadn't hired on as, was baby sitter, but apparently that was to be his new assignment according to his boss. Not something he was very excited about, until he got a glimpse of his charge, his boss' sister Mallory, and suddenly the assignment seemed much less of a chore. On strict instructions Max attempts to steer Mallory away from the more interesting parts of the resort, but it doesn't take very long for some of the more salient favours the resort offers, to come to light. And to Max' surprise, Mallory seems intrigued. Before long, it isn't just self-defense that Max is instructing Mallory in, but the more sensual pleasures the body can provide.  Both disciplines plus the unyielding support Max is providing Mallory serves her well, when the cause of her fears suddenly catches up with her. ***** Highly tantallizing and full of great sarcastic humor!!  A story with great characters who each individually show fantastic personalities. The dialogues are intelligent, witty and sharp and it is written cleverly. Jamie K. Schmidt pays the reader a great compliment by writing with the obvious expectation of a certain level of insight and intelligence, as opposed to 'dumbing' the story down by explaining and outlining every little detail. She makes the correct assumption that certain dynamics, interactions, emotions etcetera, can be worked out by the reader without needing to have it pre-chewed for them. I love that!!  Max is an interesting fellow with multiple layers and not at all a predictable Alpha. For one, he is a clothing designer at heart, something that has caused his 'manhood' to have been questioned in the past, and he also has an infinitely tender and insightful side. Apparently this has made absolutely no difference in his substance as either an Alpha male or a Dominant. Since he is both with quite a dose of conviction. These seemingly incongruent layers make the entire slice so much more delicious, with hard and soft alternating. With Mallory's character the interest comes from her carefully contained passion. She has been one to always colour inside the lines and live a carefully measured and dosed out life, but once control was ripped from her hands involuntarily and exposed her, she had nothing to lose and finally started exploring some of her more basic desires. Finding that life can be more vivid when experiencing as opposed to existing. Max allows her to slowly build her trust in him and lets her fly. There is a book or two bubbling in the background of HEAT. Supporting characters that are moving around in the periphery that would provide for interesting main subjects in a future novel. I am keeping my fingers crossed that my instincts are on par and we will see some future installments coming our way for Club Inferno. I'll be first in line! ¿A fabulous combination of scorching heat and ascerbic wit!¿ **Copy provided in return for an honest review.**

Mallory Byrant is on the run and hiding from her abusive fiance'. When she is out of money and resources she turns to her older sister for help. Heading to her sister's resort in Connecticut, Mallory finds herself hold up in an erotic club instead of the Couture Fashion resort she believes it to be.  Mallory's sister send Max Spencer to watch over and protect her sister. Max might be assigned as her body guard but the more they get to know each other the more he fantasizes about making Mallory his submissive. Passions ignite and erotic pleasures lead to feelings neither of them were prepared for. Although it does contain BDSM, the plot revolves around Mallory rebuilding her self confidence after leaving the abusive relationship.  Heat is an erotic trip into the hedonism the likes few will ever know. It is packed full of erotic and vividly described encounters with multiple partners. I give Heat 3.5 steam filled stars.

Time to turn up the Heat... Heat is an erotic contemporary BDSM romance. Max is a Dom, and Mallory an ER doctor dealing with her fiancés abusive behavior and his drug addiction. With nowhere to go and low on funds, Mallory decides to ask her estranged sister, Colleen, if she can stay with her. Her sister is the owner of Couture, a fashion business that has a sex club venture on the side known as Club Inferno. Max is a martial arts instructor and Dom at Inferno. He’s a caring and sensitive hero who prefers to set up scenes and watch them rather than participate. When Mallory arrives, her sister asks Max to be her bodyguard. He agrees, and very quickly things heat up between the two. Max decides to switch up his watching of scenes in favor of acting out Mallory’s desires with her. The chemistry is hot, and the BDSM light between them. This is a well written book with fun and interesting characters. I was captivated from the beginning to the end. I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley for an honest review. My thanks also goes to the author for a wonderful read.

This is a story about.a young woman, Mallory, an ER doctor with a home life from hell. It starts out with Mallory on the run from her fiancée who is an attorney who has gotten into drugs. He is abusive and the last night she went home after work he forced some ecstasy down her throat leading to a bad trip. She wakes up first, grabs some clothes and goes on the run. She spends two months on the run when she finally runs out of money and calls her sister to ask for help. Her sister, Colleen, runs a fashion resort with an exclusive sex club in the background. Her sister and her have been estranged so this is difficult for Mallory. Thus begins Mallory's journey of healing and finding herself as well as a hunkalicious man, Max, who is tasked with babysitting her. Max is gorgeous, fit, and a self defense instructor on the fashion side of the resort and a master Dom on the dark side. He and Mallory become friends and he introduces her to a light side of BDSM. This is a mix of romance, self discovery and sex. It was well written and keeps the reader's attention riveted to the story. This view of BDSM was refreshing in contrast to some of the books where the female main character is usually pushed to extreme levels of pain. The characters are interesting and fun. I enjoyed this book and have already purchased the next one, which is calling me...

I really liked this book. The way the sisters related to each other was funny and so believable. The Club is interesting and very high end with a fashion side which is very " vanilla" and a kinky side which is not. This book didn't get into a lot of BDSM because Mallory is pretty conservative but it was still sexy and satisfying. There is a dungeon though so I'm looking forward to some kinky stuff in Book 2

The sexy stuff was pretty good, but surprisingly extraneous. Max was a great fantasy character. Mallory, eh, not so much. I didn't believe for one second that she was a doctor. The best part of the book was the relationship between the sisters and how it evolved. Also Max's family dynamics were interesting and held my attention. It was a very quick, diverting read, but I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking strictly for bdsm erotica. If you like romance with heat then I think you would be pleased with this one.

I received a copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review Mallory & Max's story. The first book in a new series called Club Inferno, I was surprisingly pleased that it had a different spin to it. It wasn't strictly about a BDSM club and lifestyle. This was a club inside a club, or rather resort. Lessons to fit your everyday or sexual side. Plenty of hot scenes & sex! The book also touches on domestic violence in three different families and how it all came together for a greater good. Great characters, can't wait to read more about them!

A sexy, erotic book that is an easy read. Sometimes it doesn’t flow that well but enjoyable none the less.

First off this is an over 18 reader book. Second if you don't care for BDSM don't read this book. Mallory has a problem to fix. Her boyfriend David is on drugs and knocks her around when he is high. She grabs some stuff and runs away. She runs to her older sister who runs a fashion, sex education and Member Club. Colleeen sets Mallory up with Max as her bodyguard. I liked these characters. There is friction between the sisters. Mallory is terrified to leave to go outside or even to work. There are other problems to solve. Great plot line Jamie! It is hard to put down Enjoy!
