Sometimes two people in love have to separate because someone thinks it’s best for everyone. What happens though when that same couple gets reunited 10 years later at a crime scene. Becca had a way with animals and she was destined to be a veterinarian because she hears what animals are thinking. Ten years ago her heart was broken when her boyfriend Owen left to join the marines. Owen was from the wrong side of the tracks. He was raised by a mentally ill mother and felt he had to leave Three Harbors, Wisconsin in order to make something of himself. One night Becca was jogging by Owen’s old home and is surprised to see him home. Even more surprising is that evidence inside the house shows that some missing pets were murdered there. A murderer is on the loose in Three Harbors and Becca is next on the list of potential victims. To make things even more complicated Becca finds out she may not be who she thought she was and has a power that others are willing to kill for. Heat Of The Moment by Lori Handeland is the second book in the Sisters Of The Craft trilogy and a great stand alone novel. I’ve read a few books by Lori Handeland and I feel like this is the best book I’ve read by her. In most romance novels(and this book is more than just a romance novel) I feel like I know where the story is going. In this one I had a feeling I knew where it was going but wasn’t sure how the story was going to get there. What really sold this story for me was the character of Owen. This is a man who had nothing going for him except Becca, the whole town of Three Harbors seems to be against him or so he thinks. Owen had low self-esteem and was known as the crazy woman’s kid. He at least had Becca which was the reason he had to leave town. My favorite part of the book was when Owen sees Becca performing a miracle as a veterinarian and realizes that if he would have stayed, Becca could have never become who she was. Perceptions aren’t always reality though. Owen has just returned from Afghanistan with a bad injury and is not sure what will happen next and some people in town make it obvious that they don’t want him around. As the story moves along we see that Owen was a hero in the war and some people in town see him that way but he still sees himself as the low life he use to feel like. Another great scene in this book was a flashback where Owen and Becca meet for the first time as kids. It was the type of scene that if you saw it in a film it you would think of it as one of the great moments in a romantic movie. From that point you are rooting for the couple to get back together in the present. Just in case romance isn’t your thing there is a lot more going on in the Heat Of The Moment that might tickle your fancy. There is a good mystery going on, some great supporting characters and a story of a woman finding out that she has power. There is magic in this book that leads into a whole mythology that fans of romance and mystery will love.

Witchcraft has always been written in books in such a way that those who practice are either older crones or families of strong women where the talent and ability to cast spells is passed from generation to generation. Either way, there's always another element set on destroying the magic within those who possess it or intent on capturing the magic for themselves. In the case of these three sisters the one set to destroy them in the modern world is the same one who was set on destroying their parents in the 15th century. Magical books like these have always captured my imagination, and they hit very close to home for me - from the time I read The Crucible in high school until today, books surrounding the stories of witches and their families just grab my attention! These three books were no exception and why I feel the need to put their reviews into one post - for you cannot discuss one without interlacing the other two - the books and their stories are woven together in such a way that the reader can't help but need to know them together vs. separately. The relationships between the women and their respective mates and then their sisters are perfectly written with each character fleshed out amazingly well. Five out of Five Starts for the Sisters of the Craft Series! I am anxious to see what else Ms. Handeland has written! **I received a copy of these books from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**

This is the second book in the Sisters of the Craft Trilogy. You can find my review for the first book, In the Air Tonight, here. For this trilogy you don’t have to read them in order, but I would say that you should. You won’t be completely confused, but the story will flow a lot better if you do. In this book we meet the second triplet, Becca. Her power, although she doesn’t realize it until later in the book, is to talk to animals and heal. As a kid she talked to animals, but kids quickly learn not to stick out, so by the time she was an adult, Becca thought she just had a vivid imagination as a child. The story begins with Becca going for a run, or wog as her brother calls it, half jog half walk. She nears the McAllister house, also known as the Witch House, and sees a light on in the old mansion. Before she goes to investigate, the wolf who she has seen since childhood appears. This gives her a bit more confidence as she approaches the mansion. Inside is Owen McAllister, Becca’s first love. Owen is home from the war, with his bomb sniffing dog, because they were both on the wrong end of a bomb explosion. He had just discovered the charred remains on various small animals and pets, and is a bit freaked out. They contact the local sheriff, who earlier that day had mentioned to Becca that black pets had gone missing and to keep an ear out for any information. Becca and Owen are awkwardly waiting for the sheriff to get to the crime scene. Owen even more so because he doesn’t want anyone to realize the extent of his injuries. The story progresses with people getting killed and branded with a wolf symbol. Once they realize that the killer is after Becca, Owen refuses to leave her side. This causes tension between Owen and Becca’s dad who had basically chased Owen out of town because he feared Owen and Becca were getting too serious. Towards the end of the book Becca meets her sister Raye, Raye’s fiance and a few members of the their group who are hunting down the witch killers. Becca comes fully into her powers, and the sisters realize they are even stronger together. A bunch more things happen, but I don’t want to spoil the book too much for you. We meet new characters that will most likely help fight the bad guys in the last book. And you get to find out how Becca and Owen’s relationship works out.

**I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review** Becca Carstairs is a veterinarian in small town Wisconsin. She knows she’s a little on the weird side. After all, She “hears” animals talking in her head and there’s the odd wolf with the green eyes that she’s known her whole life. When she’s out on her nightly wogging, she goes past her ex-boyfriend’s abandoned house, only to find it’s not quite so abandoned. Owen McAllister comes back to the town that shunned him as a military vet, expecting to repair his old house and get back out of Dodge. Instead he finds that his house has not only been damaged by local youth, but it’s been used as a demonic sacrifice site. As he tries to figure out what to do with it, he finds Becca, the one he left behind, lurking nearby. Together, they try to figure out why someone would want to kill her as Becca also finds that she’s definitely not who she thought she was. This is book two in Lori Handeland’s Sisters of The Craft trilogy. It picks up pretty much where the first one leaves off with the second sister accepting her heritage and trying to escape modern-day witch hunters. This one, like the first book, was as fast-paced as the first book. Once I started it, I couldn’t really put it down. As Becca learns about who she really is and deals with what happened between her and Owen, in the past and present, I was completely caught into the story. The author does a great job of really drawing you into the world she creates. I highly recommend this book and series.

And the mystery continues... Three Harbors was home to veterinarian Becca Carstairs. With all the craziness going on around town about animal sacrifices and witches and such, there was a beautiful second chance romance going on. Owen is back from Afghanistan with his MWD Reggie and the attraction to Becca is still strong as ever. Could Becca really hear the thoughts of animals? Of Reggie? She thought it was always in her head but maybe it was always a part of who she really was. Also, who was the woman that looked exactly like Becca except with black hair instead of red? This is the second book in the trilogy, Sisters of the Craft. Bravo Lori Handeland! Another amazing story in an equally amazing series. There are many different elements to this story but they're put together so well, it's easy to follow along. I am so curious as to what the third sister will be like. And the search continues... I was offered to read this series some time ago and it’s not long ago I read the first of these 3 novels. “In the Air Tonight” was already a very intense story. One that you were not able to put down after reading just a few pages. Heat of the Moment by Lori Handeland is the second book of this series and continues in the same intense way. The characters are well developed and the story is written as good – if not even better than the first one. The world that was created by Lori Handeland seems to be getting better with each book. It is recommended to read the books in the right order to get the full “pleasure” – And this is what it will be – a real READING PLEASURE

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!! ***Received a copy of the ebook for an honest review The cover is beautiful and goes really well with the other book. They all connect :) This is book two in the trilogy, and I loved it as much as book one. Becca is a strong and talented woman. Owen is haunted by many things and has an awesome dog :) They have a lot of things to work out. This book has just as much intrigue as the last one and mystery and murder. The plot and storyline are wonderful and everything worked to pull me into the story and held on to the end. I had a hard time putting it down when I had to go take care of things like feeding my son :) I didn’t want to give any of the story away, but if you have read book one, it is similar yet unique. And of course Raye, Pru, Henry, and the others from book one come help out too!!! I can’t wait to read book 3 :) I recommend this series to paranormal fans of witches, wolves, magic, and sisters!!!

I love this series! I loved the first book, and I loved this one; actually I tend to love all of Handeland's books. The witch angle was interesting, and I enjoyed reading about the main character having to discover her ancestry. I think Becca is great, she's intelligent, funny, and she's chill, and I loved how she goes for what she wants. I really liked Owen too, he's perfect for Becca, and they have excellent chemistry, and they were just adorable together. I like that the characters who have magic actually use magic; I hate when characters have these magic skills, and they rarely use them. The book kept interested the whole time, and having someone out to get Becca kept the suspense going, and I really like small towns; it makes for some interesting side characters. The author did a good job of having a good amount of both romance and the unveiling of the other storyline; I would've liked maybe a little bit more romance, but that's just because I love romance, but I still loved it. Having the addition of the other characters from the previous book show up was really great because I loved them in the first book, so I'm glad they carried over to this book as well, and I'm really hoping the characters from both books will be in the next book, and it's looking as if that's going to be the case. I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series, I know I'll love it!

This is Becca Carstairs & Owen McCallister's story. And Reggie's. Becca is a veterinarian who has the uncanny ability to treat animals & is able to converse with them. They tell her what's wrong & she fixes it. Owen is a war veteran who along with his dog Reggie a military trained bomb sniffing dog who have been injured and have come "home" to recuperate. Its the only home that Owen cares about, since he has lived in many different places. Owen and Becca have a history together. Owen finds a huge mess at his house, he has to call the authorities to come and investigate. There are all kinds of things that keep happening, so Owen & Becca keep getting thrown together & are finding that they want to delve into their history. There is the "magical" ability that Becca has with animals, she finds out she has 2 sisters. One has found her & the other sister is out in the world somewhere. Becca has "supernatural" incidents with a wolf.... Great book. Looking forward to reading the third book of this series--SISTERS OF THE CRAFT. This is book 2. It can be read as a stand-alone, or read in the series

Triplets, identical in appearance except for hair color, were sent forward in time to save them from being burned at the stake as witches...but the evil has followed them to the future. Now, it is imperative that they reunite or the evil they escaped will not only destroy them but all magic kind. Becca is a vet with a magical gift towards animals, not that she would ever expose that in her small, gossipy town. But the town suddenly has more to gossip about when animals start to go missing. Owen is an injured war vet returning to his hometown with his military canine. He left as the boy from the wrong side of town but the town seems to be trumpeting him as a hero. Conflicted with his emotions, life changes and most definitely Becca, Owen struggles with his new lot in life. Owens emotional and mental scars provide strong obstacles for the couple to over come. Wonderfully edgy, this fast paced, riveting urban fantasy is a reading gem. Handeland storytelling is vividly written, capturing the reader and emotionally investing you in the characters plight. Heat of the Moment is absolutely spellbinding. I received this ARC copy of Heat of the Moment from St. Martin's Press in exchange for a honest review.

Triplet girls, sent far into a time where no one believes in witches anymore, three contemporary women, unknown to each other, must meet, join as sisters and defeat evil. Lori Handeland’s Heat of the Moment uncovers the tale of Becca, a small town veterinarian who has a gift with animals. Not that she would tell anyone about it, small towns, big gossips, small minds. What would people say? Owen left Becca and his tainted life behind to become a Marine, where he was judged as a soldier and a man, instead of the boy from the wrong side of the tracks. And he broke Becca’s heart by running off suddenly without a word. He said he loved her, but he left anyway, a question that has tormented Becca for years. Now he’s back, a war hero, with his canine partner, injured both physically and emotionally. Can Becca survive round two of all things Owen? Something dark is happening, brutal animal tortures and ritualistic murders, and no one has a clue as to what is going on. Is someone trying to bring Becca’s powers out into the open? Confused, Becca’s talent will dig up some amazing clues as to what is going on and her true past will be revealed. Is she ready? Edgy, intense and detailed, once again, Lori Handeland brings her talent into the forefront as a gifted story-teller who knows how to package her tales into riveting urban fantasy with a side of romantic intrigue. Fast-paced, full of everything required for magnetic reading that casts its own spell over each reader, this one will grab at your heart, while it feeds your need for fantasy and the magic of books! I received an ARC edition from St. Martin's Press in exchange for my honest review.

4 - "He's out." Stars! Book two in the Sisters of the Craft Series, takes off literally where book one finished. But this is a new town; Three Harbors, Wisconsin, and focuses on a different sister. Becca Carstairs, has always been a little bit different, being the town Veterinary Surgeon those differences, namely that she can understand the language of animals, means that her patient loss rate is virtually non-existent. ”There’s hurt… then there’s agony.” Owen McAllister back in town after a ten year hiatus, is hoping to get in, get his mother’s house sold and get out again. The last decade has taken him far away from the path his life followed as the son of the towns ‘mad-woman’. Injured, and carrying more battle scars internally and mentally, as well as his K9 colleague Reggie, Owen is really not looking for a reconnection with the one woman, who held his heart all those years ago, the girl who loved him for who he was and didn’t judge him for his mother’s crimes, especially in a town where appearances are everything. For him, a room that contained Becca Carstairs was devoid of anything else worth noticing. Lori Handeland has such a distinctive way of writing, you cannot help but become immersed in the story that she is telling, blunt and to the point, but also beautifully descriptive and quirkily humorous. I dreamed of him weekly, thought of him daily, missed him hourly. But it was Owen that stood out in this book for me, as although the story is based around the spate of animal sacrifices that has sprung up in town, not to mention the attempts on Becca’s life, from initially unknown enemies. It was his story and his internal monologue that kept me glued to the pages. The Venatores Mali and the threat to the sisters as a whole is still very apparent, the appearance of Raye and Bobby (In the Air Tonight) towards the end of this book ties up the two really well together, it also gives us a really great cast and strong story-line to follow on with, moving onto the third and final book; Smoke on the Water which is due August 2015. ARC generously provided via Netgalley, and it was my absolute pleasure to provide the above honest review.
