This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. Ms. Verge spins a wonderful tale painting word pictures of the Canadian Wilds during the early days of fur trapping, and creating great depth in her characters. It is one of those books that I was sorry to see end. I have not read a book set in the newly claimed Canadian wilds. (By the French.) I don' t know if the "King's girls" were a true part of history, but now am curious enough to find out. The author made me believe that everything she wrote was true to the time. It is a touching love story, as well. One reviewer made the comment that there was too much sex. I'd disagree. It seemed appropriate to the characters and tastefully written. Finally, a spunky, tough, adventuresome woman! Thank you so much for this free book found on the B & N website. I have discovered a new author to add to my favorites,

Even though I obtained this book for free, I pretty much enjoyed it, despite the graphic sex parts. I believe it was true to the times in which it was set.

But...I throughly enjoyed the characters and the story! Tramping through Canada in the 1600’s was a lot of fun!

Trading places to go to the new Frances couldn't be worse than the streets of Paris. . Right? I truly enjoyed this book. After arriving with a fever, Andre chose to marry her, only because to get a trading license now required it. marrying her, than placing her at the hospital he made arrangements for her burriel. Than left to continue his travels for trade. However, fever did not claim her, and she was determined to take her place by his side as his wife.

A very interesting story indeed. I had read a long time ago ;that in order to populate the colonies in their own image (so to speak) women were rounded up from orphanages and street corners and put on ships heading for the colonies - this book makes a reference to to the same fact. The overall story is captivating and brings forth how hard their life was. My deepest gratitude to all the(affectionately speaking )nerds who invested electronics medium and the cell phone!

Story kept my interest. Didn't know about Kings Girls, learned something new. What a brutal change of lifestyle for a gently bred girl.
